Jay in my top rappers oat but we going with generations here and he‘s not top 3 in 00s nor 90s respectfully but he‘s definitely in the convo for the 00s I put him in honorable mentions for both. he had insane competition tbh so

Maybe top 4 for jay in the 90s?

    What’s the criteria?

    • accomplishing a mix of commercial success/being iconic, high influence, having albums people consider classic & also being highly appreciated by the hip hop community at the same time

I personally think that‘s the most fair description since there are rappers who are insanely skilled lyrically but lack the public respect others have or are commercially at the top but are not respected as much by heads for example.

80s: (decade of the hip hop groups)

    NWA

    Run DMC

    Eric B & Rakim

    Public Enemy

    90s:
    Biggie

    2Pac

    Nas

    Jay Z

    (HM: Snoop Dogg, DMX)

    00s: Big 4

    Eminem

    50 Cent

    Lil Wayne

    Kanye

(Honorable Mention: Andre 3000, Jay Z)

    10s:

    Drake

    Kendrick

    J Cole

    20s: non yet
    Arguable:

    • Pop Smoke (highly influential, commercially the biggest album of the new gen, highly appreciated by hip hop fans) unfortunately died too young
    • Carti (most influential (also in fashion), commercially up there - cult-like fanbase, music nerds love that man)
    • maybe Lil Baby & NBA Youngboy?
    • X & Juice WRLD had the potential but they died too

There's no criteria if they ain't allow Tyler to be at the number 3 spot.

I think this is pretty accurate if you remove Cole and add Future. And im not saying this because of recent events but Future had arguably the biggest influence in the 2010s sonically, large pool of hits and staying power throughout the decade

Honestly he’s the figure people are searching for in their mind when they are looking for an alternative to standard big 3 in terms of what he represents at least, the nigga quit music too early to mention though

It tough though because his 2000s impact was so massive, but its hard to put him in there with the other 3 because he really did start in the 90s u know

Jay z was in the big 3 of the late 90s/early 00s. You have to split some of these decades

  • Apr 9, 2024

    2020s: Carti, cash cobain, yeat

  • Future over cole tbh
    Rest is solid
