your marginalized status does not prevent you from having an objectively bad opinion or speaking lies

if @op posted a non tariq nasheed source ie Hollywood Unlocked would peoples take on this change?

just a regular news source... people are in their feelings bc it's Tariq and not the actual video

I mean, most people understand this and call the bullshit out when they see it. Why do you think people call out Candace Owens or Milo Yiannopoulos or Ian Miles Cheong, for example?

I would say the same thing, no matter what source posted it.

It's better to be objective than to discredit someone all the time based on their affiliations. I don't agree with peoples politics, but if an idea, opinion and or stance is correct, giving the person to speak vs dismissing them doesn't create progress.

You're right though, op made a bait thread and it worked.

People should know what they're getting with Lil Nas X at this point.. I'm pretty sure BET had a meeting about the set and was aware that this was going to happen. Personally I wouldn't have invited him to the event because I disagree with his lifestyle choices. I'd invite actual artists with talent than an edgy pop rapper. BET is going down the direction that they find most profitable. S***sells and we're talking about BET more than ever

  • Lol yall sayin he sound homophobic but he aint say nun homophobic

Essentially said he thought the performance was a bad representation of the community

    Fair opinion

Having watched the video, literally the person is giving the same exact tired and oft shutdown talking points that most homophobes employ. Which is why Tariq Nasheed is even posting that video to begin with. A lot of people apart of the LGBTQ will say the same thing about the points being made in the video, whether it's from a straight person or a gay person who hates and is embarrassed by their own.

    • Where is this energy for heterosexuals carrying on on stage like that?
    • Why is it okay for hypersexuality and/or regular romance between two heterosexual individuals allowed to be shown on TV and in film to children and teens but it's a problem when it's between homosexual individuals?
    • Why do people only care about how something can "harm children" when it comes to homosexuality but it's crickets with excessive violence and propaganda ever present in film, TV, and video games?

There were zero good points made in the video. The only reason why this video even got Tariq's attention is because he now has a gay man to hide his own homophobic views behind because he feels validated in that single gay person agreeing with him. Despite frequently being called out by many people of all races apart of the LGBTQ for years. It's the same reason why you'll see racists use those videos of Terry Crews speaking against Black people marching and protesting as "One of the good ones", but they'll ignore everything else that is against their views, even if it is based in fact.

First off, Godfrey does a hilarious Terry Crews impersonation but that's a bad example lmao.

There is the same energy. Where we're at in our time, this performance is the equivalent/a little under of Janet Jackson & Justin Timberlake. It's sensationalized.

The fact that it's on a "Black" network is what's 'polarizing' the performance. If this was the grammy's it's not shocking... The tit reveal during the Super Bowl in front of "Middle America" is the same reaction of a black male kissing another male during a black event that featured gospel artist Kirk Franklin is what gets people side eyed. Those two opposing genres creates an imbalance. Even if this is Hollywood, the majority of Blacks grow up in Church and we've all heard that homosexuality is an abomination. Whether one accepts that or not, that core value still holds dear to people, the audience included. The BET audience is most likely Gen X and older....

Again, if this was at a white ran show, it'd be no surprise nor would people be talking about it imo. That's why no one gives af about that SNL skit.

I don't vouch for hypersexuality. Am against it in general because it cheapens the black image.

When it comes to excessive violence & propaganda in media, people do criticize on the daily. Their voice is smaller because it doesn't sell.
