My peers are a talented group
But even if you take all their statistics and carry the two
Even if you rounded up the numbers and rounded the troops
There's still nothin' they could really do

    back catalog numbers

Sure but is this longevity not insane for someone who’s always been accused of making “fast-food music?”

His back catalog and even some of the early 20s stuff is aging incredibly well. 51m daily streams isn’t normal at all. Only Taylor does that on a regular basis. And Bad Bunny when he has an album out

I give props to Drake for being a genuis at capturing a audience through pop and rap for this long. The fast-food music was really only a discussion in the 2020s.

However, it is just the Wayne formula. Bro learned from the best. Drop so much music that the good music outweighs the negatives.

I just don’t see how people can simultaneously downplay his numbers by saying he has a classic/very large back catalog, and also say that he’s the McDonalds of rap who doesn’t make lasting music

With Drake it’s like people are only willing to call his good stuff good years later when it’s not the current thing anymore. “Drake” at any given moment is this fast-food pop rapper who makes substance-less music, yet “Old Drake” is treated like an actual artist deserving of critical engagement.
And even though the umbrella of what people consider “Old Drake” grows every year, his musical reputation is still in the toilet and despite the fact that he has hundreds of songs that are considered at least good, people still treat him like Flo Rida.

At least for Wayne even when he makes bad music, his overall standing as an artist and contributions to music are never called into question. Unless it’s someone who has no idea what they’re talking about

It’s def a lil of the “old Kanye” effect when you frame it like that won’t lie

But imo like my own experiences as a Drake fan. The new s*** don’t hit the same on a number of diff levels. A lot of glimpses or sparks here and there but even FATD which I liked well enough more than most I stopped listening to almost entirely less than a year on. Her Loss which I was super high on same story. Like if certain songs come on shuffle I wont skip em but it’s rare I seek em out just to do it like I would with certain older tracks

I think “old drake” is partially an effect of growing up and out of his music to an extent too idk. There’s def a valid convo to be had about it all

Scorpion was definitely the beginning of the "fast food" era
