When Drake dropped that house album and his stans said everybody was gonna start making house music because of it and then it just never happened, was when I knew his influence waned

AbyssHe just doesn't offer the same type of variety to the masses. Drake did dancehall, house music and all kinda different stuff.
We more in a subculture era. People nowadays just listen more to the niche they like. Like Carti, YB etc

I get the cultures argument but I can see Dot being featured on a Burna Boy record or the Dave album.
I dont think the feature stuff Drake does for artist is replicable tho.

yandIt’s funny when people say s*** like “The Drake era” because it’s solely tied to commercial success as opposed to influence, cultural impact, tastemaking or really pushing the genre forward in any meaningful way whatsoever so I never really understood why it was ever dubbed that at all.
It isn’t any different than how Lebron fans try to give him an “era” although Curry was way more revolutionary and impactful on basketball as a whole.
Maybe the conversation should be saved for the retrospective I guess
