it's so problematic that this will 100% go under the radar

no one under 30 will understand why this is an issue unless they work in tech. best hope is for this dying in the house but even then it's worrying since this bill is so bipartisan in the senate. As mentioned elsewhere, if this went all to the way to the courts, it would almost unequivocally be found unconstitutional, so I expect EFF or IA to sue if it passes.

getting a VPS and making your own VPN server and encrypting the data

there is no way you know what someone is doing with your data on the other side of any VPN service

I use Torguard though but that's not for privacy as much as it's for piracy lol
