The Year is 1991 and Sean “Puff Daddy” “Diddy” Combs is just an intern at Uptown Records. He would hold a celebrity basketball charity event open to the public in a a basement gymnasium in Harlem New York to celebrate the new year and raise awareness for AIDS, the concert featured the likes of Heavy D, Jodeci and LL Cool J.

Except one problem, The Gymnasium could only hold 2,000 people and around 5,000 people showed up, it turns out Diddy deliberately oversold the tickets for the event, so much so that Wendy Williams told ppl ‘If You don’t have a ticket don’t go to the event’. Turns Out Diddy pocketed a lot of the proceeds and the charity state they never received a single donation A contract for this event was laid out with all the details to make sure everything went smoothly but Diddy didn’t bother to read it…. this leads to a disaster.

It immediately causes a crush at the entrance as every had begun to rush the doors despite the Gymnasium already being at capacity, attendees were Chest to chest at the stairwell entrance and this caused the safety glass on the front doors to shatter ultimately causing a crush and a stampede that slipped into the gymnasium itself.

In the end 9 people lost their lives that night and Diddy just got his stuff and left, Attendees state he didn’t seem concerned at all and showed zero remorse. This is the first incident where people saw Diddys strong lack of concern for any human life that isn’t his own…. he would eventually settled out of court with the victims families and only had to pay $600,000 in total.
