I always take Chris Stuckmann’s recommendation and he said it’s the best DC movie and one of the best comic book movies he’s seen. So I’ll take it as a good movie. I’ll see what I think next week

Maybe it’s because I’m on a high coming off the movie and maybe it’s because I’m a big DC fan in general, but The Flash is great. It works as a love letter to DC and an ending to the DCEU. Even though all the external DC stuff is present, this movie is still all about Barry Allen.

Ezra Miller was incredible as both Barrys. They bring a different energy to each one that really makes them feel different enough from each other to almost be distinct. There is enough commonality between them that makes them still feel like they are both Barry Allen.

Seeing Michael Keaton back as Batman was a treat. He still kicked ass and where his character is when we meet him in this works (but also kind of doesn’t). Sasha Calle was a really good Supergirl. She brought some of the weight needed that informed us just enough about where she was in this world. Ben Affleck makes a great final(?) turn as Batman in the short time we have him. I feel like this was the most fun he had playing the character.

    Snyder Cut is canon btw

The action set pieces are good, the opening one being very fun to watch. I thought the way the speed force was portrayed was interesting and not at all how I was expecting. Some of the other Flash elements in this film were done very well. Overall I feel like Andi Muschietti did a very good job.

All this positive glow I have towards this movie doesn’t come without some negatives. First and foremost, the CG is undercooked. There’s part of me where I feel like in one section it was a stylistic choice, but other parts (third act specifically) not so much. Also, without going into spoilers here, something was missing from Keaton’s Batman. Maybe it was cut from the film. The main villain was solid, but undercooked if that makes sense.

Overall, I had a blast with The Flash. it’s a shame that Ezra has done s***ty things (some of which may or may not be true) because I would have loved to see them continue as Barry Allen going forward. The positives far outweigh the negatives for me and this is a movie that I’m excited to see again next Friday.

Yes, if you look beyond the subjects on screen at the background objects it was rough at times

  • Jun 7, 2023

Now that I’ve seen the RT score I think it should be a little higher than 73 lmao

Glad to hear this, hoping to catch this opening night
I’m expecting a rebound on the level of AntMan to GOTG3 with Shazam to this movie
Honestly it sounds great that this is at the very least a love letter to this particular take on the DC universe, it’s had (mostly) low points, but the high points really added a lot of levity to the comic book movie conversation.

I really hope we get the full or partial scripts from the previous The Flash film writers/directors (same for Affleck’s Batman film)

I got an advance screening of THE FLASH today. As a rule I don't care a lot for superhero movies, but this one is special. It's heartfelt, funny, and eye-popping. I loved it.
