Ignoring albums from veterans like Lupe and Pusha, from the newcomers I think JID's was AOTY by good margin. Amazing rapping, lush production, and great guest features where they contributed well to the music. I can tell he definitely stepped up his artistry from his previous projects, as I never understood the hype behind DiCaprio 2. He won me over with this album This could perhaps be ATL's Food & Liquor?
This video from Justin Hunte explains about how it could be the definite classic of this era:

Let's get to discussion
jid is 31 and has been popping for five years i dont think hes a newcomer
great album tho
Swear I seen u say this album was overrated a couple of times in the thread
Listened to it this morning through headphones and changed my mind ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'll admit it's more of a headphones than play in the car music, could just be me
ATL’s food & liquor?
Even though I highly disagree with this assessment I can see how someone could say something like that.
Op was just saying this album wasn't a standout and JID raps about the same thing. Now he's saying it's aoty by a good margin
Vince got AOTY
JID is probably number 2 tho
I dislike both but Freddie's album is really good
No
But I like it!
