i feel like every hip-hop fan should watch this show at least once kinda like with Atlanta, have any of y'all seen it?
it really has a little bit of everything, it shows you how it was like growing up in 70s New York and tells you a thing or two about the history of the city during those times, real good s***
Underrated show. Netflix can go to hell for canceling it. Still not over that
Luhrmann could’ve turned the first season into a 2.5 hour masterpiece
super super underrated show wish they never cancelled it
this was the first domino in my hate for Netflix
can't stand these niggas now
Haven't seen I saw the TV glow yet but this show is probably the most I've liked/ enjoyed Justice Smith in his whole career.
Luhrmann could’ve turned the first season into a 2.5 hour masterpiece
na it was fine as a show. only angle i could agree with that from is how overblown the budget was. second season felt so cheap by comparison so a complete limited series would've been preferred
I'm just researching the interconnected history of EDM and rap and checked this out for fun as an insight into the early days for both.
watching the pilot film I'm v surprised w how faithful this is to what I've been reading on the history and rly giving u a feel for how mindblowing early DJing and MCing must've felt in the cultural context of the time. Baz Luhrmann def adds a whole lot of flash and flare which on the whole does kinda work giving energy and momentum to the dancing and parties - decisions like turning the RZA-inspired character into a bit of a Spartacus going a bit too far tho imo, maybe u can look at it as campy fun but yh kinda random/corny def lol
I didn't expect to get so hooked w the storyline either, the romance angle mixed w this dual artist coming-of-age def gives this an intriguing plot already with lots of interesting colorful characters. I like that even small parts have been fairly memorable already. looking forward to see if the rest can deliver on the promise of the pilot.
