I don't think this album will be looked at as a classic or the consensus will still be very split like it is now. But time will tell

    Personally I think it will

People have low attention spans in the short term but as time goes on the genius of his artistry will be appreciated more

When people are taking inventory of Kendrick’s career 20 years from now MMTBS is going to be celebrated for its bold creativity and subject matter and for its high level execution. I really think everything from GKMC-MMTBS will be celebrated,

To be fair to him, it was my #1 listened too and I only listened in the first two weeks and then revisited it like twice after. I just listened a ton when it first dropped to a***yze as he probably did

I want to find the person who invented the term replay value and slap them so hard

    Why? It’s important
Replay value is key when it comes to something being classic

If we never replayed tracks from thriller ever again, would it still be classic?

Calling something classic when you never return to it just doesn’t make sense

Replay value is important but people act like it’s the ONLY important thing when judging a piece of music or the only value a song can hold which is why we get a lot of recycled playlist fodder released by artists year after year

It’s not the only important thing but it is certainly the MOST important thing. Replayability = timelessness = classic

I hate that people see art mainly through a consumption lens these days. Cant blame them really because thats what companies want, theres a reason streaming services and marvel movies control their respective mediums, very accessible and provide easy entertainment without much thinking. Its weird to me people base their opinions on art mainly on how much they can consume It. I love 808s, James Blake self titled, atrocity exhibition and unknown pleasures, theres no way ill play them as much as i love them because they evoke specific feelings that only fit certain moments. Aint no way im playing some depressing s*** in the summer for example. Beach house still got aoty for me but its a long, heavy listen, It wont have the replayability of something like dawn FM but thats not a slight towards beach house. Accessible doesnt mean better, just like inaccessible doesnt mean better and more profound. I dont think for example Kendrick meant for mother i sober to be a whip classic, its a song meant for specific moments that conveys what hes trying to say in the most emotional and simultaneously barenones way. Some will say that music Is meant to be enjoyed first and foremost, but id argue that music like any artform can also aspire to challenge the listener, and its not like mother i sober doesnt have good melodies and great performances by Kendrick and beth gibbons, its just not something meant for the charts

    Nothing wrong with that

I haven't listened to Blonde in 5 years but that's because of how impactful it is

Kendrick talking bout he's not a savior but at the same time literally wants credit for BREAKING A GENERATIONAL CURSE. Bro do U want ppl to look up to U or not? How TF U break a generational curse by admitting U cheat on your wife and accusing rappers of hiding sexual abuse trauma through violent posturing. Dude is delusional and confused.

who made you cancel your account lil guy 😂😂

It's a highly subjective metric and just because you don't come back a lot to a record doesn't mean' you don't like it either, what if you listen to something rarely but everytime u listen to it you still love it and discover new things about it? There's a ton of albums for which that's the case, at least for me

I do think replay value is a thing but I just hate how people online use it as the golden standard to evaluate musicn

  • Idk about the rest of the album but I replay Die Hard all the time. Classic

To add to this, there are entire artists and genres you wouldn't really be able to enjoy if you approached it from the replay value/consumption lens

You can't engage with ambient music, a lot of jazz, a lot of folk etc. The same way you engage pop music. It's not meant to be approached in the same way. There are records you really NEED to sit down with to really get the whole experience.

I listened to Atrocity Exhibition today, it's one of my favorite rap records oat but I cannot imagine listening to 80% of the songs on there contextually removed from the record itself. It's meant to be heard in context.

You can like something and not want to have it that often

Some things you really have to be in a certain mood to even get into

That doesn’t make it any less great… it’s just not a casual listening experience.

I like cheesecake, but I don’t want cheesecake all the damn time. When I’m in the mood for that s*** tho, I’m lovin’ the f*** out of it.

MMBS is great art but not necessarily great entertainment. All you need is a couple of listens to that album and it sticks with you,but i doubt you'll want to listen over and over again.(and theres nothing wrong with that)
