just finished this, loved it, not as scary as hill house, but its different and very good
perfectly splendid :)
Just finished. Not scary like at all. The whole love theme felt extremely convoluted. Such a big step down from season 1. I'll give my full spoiler thoughts later.
Watched episode 1 and 2. Gotta say I really like it so far, the setting is gorgeous and the pacing is perfect, gives time for you to be sucked in the universe and care for it's characters. Excited to watch more
Bunch of random thoughts on the season:
The whole love theme fell kinda flat for me.
I hated the acting of that gardener chick. Her dialogs, overall vibe was just poorly executed. She was so stereotypically lesbian.
Her romance with the lead chick was also kinda poorly done. Hannah/Owen romance was forced af with very little development.
The first 4 episodes dragged a lot to the point I was starting to lose interest.
They overdid the dream-hopping s\*\*\* and it got super annoying.
The lead chick's past trauma was middle of the road and not properly fleshed out. Also that dude with glasses in the mirror s\*\*\* got so old so fast. Like seriously that's meant to be scary?
In fact I'm a bit tired of the ghost walking in the background shtick from Mike Flanagan.
Also don't go out of your way to make your ghosts overly sympathetic - cut the Spielberg-esque whimsy and sentimentality unless you can do the legwork to earn it.
HATED Peter/Rebecca romance - probably the most hated two characters for me this season.
Henry Thomas's British accent was awful and it was hilarious how he was over enunciating every word :dead:
The first season had a better setting, better set of characters that I could ride with. The relationships were well defined and had weight behind them. The mystery didn't drag and the story progression kept me interested.
Can't say the same for this season.
Still looking forward to Midnight Mass, which Flanagan is directing and writing throughout the season, which wasn't the case for Bly Manor.
Just finished tonight. It's well done storytelling and all that but I personally felt the season was mid apart from episode 5
honestly a huge let down compared to Hill House. if this was the first series, I couldn't see myself hyped for a second.
like 4 episodes in rn and this s*** been mid as hell so far
already hella disappointing compared to Hill House
S*** took a nosedive that last ep. Christ
Also just realized Mikey basically used the same actors from the previous season...Did Victoria Pedretti look like she was about to fall asleep in every scene in the first season?

that’s exactly how Hill House was lol the ending was the worst part. only difference is Hill House managed to still be an overall good show

Oliver Jackson-Cohen’s Irish accent is deadass the worst accent i’ve ever heard on TV/in a movie lmao he sounds f***ing Russian at certain points
