I remember liking it at the time, haven't rewatched it in years though
Aja was so promising back then but unfortunately he kinda fell off, whole lotta crap in his filmography in recent years so it's tough to tell whether he's still got that early juice anymore

I enjoyed Crawl, and Oxygen had good buzz around release
Everything between that though.. yeah, he dropped the ball
One of my favorite eras for the genre. Despite a lot of films being remakes like this one for example—I still think that horror had a real bite and an edge at the time. It was the first and last time since the 70’s that the genre felt dirty and raw again.

Yeah I gotta check out Crawl, I hear it's a fun time.

crawl was so fire
I just remembered, but I always thought this kid looked like the f***in guy from The Room, Denny or whatever
I saw this in theaters when I was like 11 lmao
Easily one of the best 2000s horror films though

Great take
I remember my mom refused to let me watch this for years cause she said it was such a messed up movie
very underwhelmed when I finally watched it
F***ing classic. Too bad the 2nd was poo poo. Wrong Turn 1 & 2 gave me that missing fix

Pirahna 3D is great.

hollywood should give Marcus Nispel keys to the horror kingdom again.
The early and mid 2000s had some
real grimey remakes of horror flicks
Some Wes craven stuff, RZ Halloween, Texas Chainsaw duo (2003 and 2006)
movie was such a moment\
saw it as a kid and it literally put me in shambles, but also was so intriguing and the whole story surrounding it was awesome to me
also the tiny bit of world building they did with the freaks was awesome, the names just made sense and fit.. (always thought Jupiter was such a cool name for one of them)
they all had their distinct feature that set them apart
the film was very violent and graphic and raw
even the family was likeable
the kid turned into a real hero toward the end and I actually was rooting for him,
then the classic last shot that reveals they still being watched..
sheesh
one of my fav all time horror movies right here.

Should have just made this a 2000’s horror appreciation thread.
Devils Rejects, Hostel, and The Descent in the same year
this film is brutal.
It really rejuvenated the horror genre in the mainstream after years of stagnation and mid.

Largely got negative reviews because anything horror was “bad” at that time
But a lot of the movies from that time are solid flicks.
Seems like new s*** just gets easier scores from reviewers. Can’t tell me the black phone is any better than most of this stuff.
