What does "surpassed artistically" even mean? Higher Metacritic reviews? Saul Williams was challenging the confines of rap when Kanye was doing soul samples. The Beastie Boys had an edge musically for like a decade. Death Grips is about the most radical iteration of music you can still call rap.
