It seems like media in general(tv, internet, social etc etc) project an image of humanity at its extremes.

one moment you see the best ball players, artists and people that went from nothing to everything and a couple minutes later you see murderers, racists and corrupted gov officials

and all this got me thinking.....when did being normal or -as ktt says- being ''mid'' became worse than all of the above??
we say ''be yourself'' ''chase your dreams'' ''believe in you'' just to inflate egos but what if your dream is to have a normal happy family?? is that underachieving?

people care about followers and internet clout while being lost in themselves and ignoring the world around them cause the world makes us believe that online acceptance is more important than siblings and friends

we see all these ig and yt icons be successful and because of their success we hold their opinions higher than the views of normal working class people or even higher than our family members/friends

but, when we try to apply that mindset in our lives we see the truth of it as it is.....the average person isnt like that...not at all....

and the thing with these images we get shoved down our throats is -again- the extreme of em. Like yeah, I believe people can go from below zero to a thousand but nobody shows us what happens inbetween nor we can see it in any way

it's like ordering food...you know what the ingredients are, you know it tastes good...but what happened for it to reach your door in the state it is now??

same s*** goes bout world leading figures....you see kim, bush, reagan and then you have mlk, malcolm and gandhi......what about the ones that just maintained balance or the necessary evil?

anyways, what I'm saying is, why have we been taught(by everyone) that we have to be great or total s***??scholar or homeless/heaven or hell/black or white/peasant or king etc etc

and the problem is that this type of thought process resonates in people nowadays.

my question is: When did things get so f***ed up that our narcissism became our god??

Society (or at least the Free World’s idea of society) is not meant for you to “win.” In many cases, popular figures are either gifted individuals who just so happen to hit the right criteria into being famous and successful, or they were used as a means to promote something or to gain profit. In other words, if YOU don’t benefit the “system” then YOU are unnecessary and are simply meant to live your life participating in the mundane of survival.

The human world is a complete bullshit fest meant to wring you out for everything you’re worth. Buy this pill for your cholesterol levels. Buy this pill if your p**** doesn’t get hard. You know they say you shouldn’t eat a bunch of sugar and garbage high fat foods, but that’s why we made it so easy and accessible to acquire these bad foods. You want to engage in interests that pertain to you? Well, look buddy. Best I can do is maybe you’re lucky enough to be born into a decent emotionally stable family so that you can work really REALLY hard in high school so you don’t have to pay as much money to go to school to learn in-depth what it is that interests you. Where does tuition money go towards? The church money? The ad money? The donation money? Some people learn quickly that society is nothing but a bunch of lies and horse s*** that gets blissfully ignored as to not worry the masses.

So of course in the advent of social media and global internet usage, that same “system” nestles itself in and takes full advantage of the vulnerability and new opportunities it can abuse. It’s pretty f***ing horrendous all things considered, and although even I’m too young to have fully and truly experience it, the golden age of the internet is long gone. The moment you start using a computer, companies have you by the balls. Oh you like baseball? Well gee f***ing whizz man look at all of these convenient baseball ads and videos and products and recommendations that just, by golly, we really want you to use your money for. You ever look into how social media companies, a***ytics, and how google and amazon use privacy and monopolize the entire world? How about the Wikileaks and the guy who lives in Russia now? HmMmMm... it’s almost as if society is built to keep us unaware and reassured that we were meant to consume and survive.

Since KTT has a lot of older users in the mid twenties to mid thirties, I really want to put the question out there ‘do you remember what it was like to use the Internet back in 2008 and beforehand?‘ Remember when using the Internet was something you had to actually do instead of having the convenience of it in your pocket? S***, lets open the can of worms that is why the actual f*** do all of these companies design and base their marketing on making our lives more convenient?

Mooooney. They want your money. They want young kids to be self obsessive and directionless so they buy s***ty products and follow shallow figures to get them to make them more money. Look at the SoundCloud wave. Those kids came and went. The industry dried them out so fast, that wave didn’t even last to the end of 2018. Let’s push these agendas on these vulnerable and developing children so that they push the agenda more on social media. “Wtf this person is being racist to another person on an airplane? This is f***ed up and I’m goin to share and address how f***ed up this is despite having no context or understanding of the situation other than what I am presented through this person’s phone camera and the caption that says they’re racist.”

    F*** em.
F*** what the general public thinks about you.
    F*** social media.
    F*** politics.
F*** industries and companies wanting to take advantage of your vulnerabilities to take your money.
And ultimately, America was built on bullshit to begin with, so f*** the system.

If you want to have a loving family of your own (like I do), then do it. Don’t be that parent who cares too much about what others think so you put all your effort into trying to look like a happy successful family. Be the parent that is there emotionally to guide their children into finding their way through the system of bullshit. Do what feels right inside of you.

You can choose to play the system’s game until you die, or you can learn to play the system and live in the real, natural world. It’s called ‘The American Dream’ because it’s only real when you’re asleep. Chase the real dream in the real world and find what brings you peace and happiness.

Yeah, I remember what the internet was like in the early 2000s. Back then I'd spend at most 2 hours on it at an internet cafe and then spend the rest of the day out with friends doing stupid/fun s***. Now it's the complete opposite

I feel overwhelmed by how society works. I'm tired of psychiatrists, politicians, cops and do-gooders in general

If it's up to me I want a house in a small village with a wife that'll I can love for who she is and vice versa without the need of her being a ''10/10'' and have maybe 3-4 children and a few pets and just live off the land

It is in my belief that every sane human being wants the same things:

Clean water, clean food, a place to sleep safely in and a means to provide for their friend and family. The ultimate factor in all of that is love and acceptance. Without the last two pieces, it’ll all fall apart.

I feel like we will witness a historical collapse and change, and our understanding of the modern world will soon become the old world. Nobody knows for sure what the hell is gonna happen. We just all know something is going to happen. The internet feels like the key to achieving what I mentioned above, but I am often met with doubt and neglect that it’ll ever happen by people. I believe a positive change can come though. We have to establish our needs and understandings with the rest of the world that is open to do so

I totaly agree but I also believe that people that have those things in abundance should extend a helping hand to those that dont

it's like what you said about recording....if I see a person stabbing someone a camera wont do s***....we need to actively seek whats best for people that suffer.......for example, recording a white cop beating a black man and using racial slurs wont do s***...we need to ACT for change to come

I dont know about a historical collapse and change...no offence to you but I'm no fortune teller....what I CAN do is live the best life I can live with hope and faith ...and hey, if something big happens while I'm still alive I'll take the best option for me and my own even if its selfish

At the rate the US is going, I just can’t be too sure that everything is going to continue as it is for the next 20 something years.

I agree though, I’m going to see to it that I provide and protect my family at all costs no matter what happens. There’s only so much people can do as it is, and I think a big part of that plays into how most people live their lives unaware of the current state of humanity and how it affects us.

I’m trying to get my s*** together now so it doesn’t hinder me later. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done because we are still learning and studying ourselves as a species and not a lot of info on human needs is put out yet.

This culture of individuals pushing themselves to the physical and intellectual limits of mankind started in the 80s and was linked to the massive economical changes at the time.

Serial killers and monsters well media outlets realized people were fascinated by them so they kept feeding it to us.

the problem with that is that everything from sports ads to life coaches give the message of ''you can do it'' when these people that pushed themselves to the limits are not more than at max a 10% of the population....there's ONE kobe ONE tupac ONE kubrick

whats so fascinating about killers tho?? they killed someone's father, someone's daughter and brought nothing but despair to people they came in contact with. if anything, that should be appaling not interesting

i dont think it’s that problematic to promote these performers and tell you everybody can do it, because most people realize they can’t be #1 but they’ll still try to be the best versions of themselves. It becomes an issue when they focus their whole lives on it and forget about other important aspects of their wellbeing

And killers idk man people have always been fascinated by blood and danger it’s human nature, we want to know our enemies

Idk I got a lot of positive response to my simple living thread.

I think ppl starting to realize that you don't need to have a whole lot, or be some big name to have a happy life.

Something to be said for the inherently rebellious choice to flip the bird at advertisers that try and tell you you aren't good enough without X thing. It's a radical kind of self acceptance that opens the door to deep lasting growth imo.

guess there have always been gods, deities, demigods, kings, queens, etc. that masses of regular people were conditioned to adore. Musicians, actors and celebrities are the modern day equivalent of the aforementioned. I suppose that media and government emphasize adoration of them over individuality because don't care about empowering the average person, they care about control. Implicitly placing people in classes of important and unimportant through media makes controlling masses so much easier, especially considering the 'important' are controlled aswell, making propaganda easier. Implicit messaging builds up through repetition until we accept it, (us being 'unimportant,' subordinate, cattle, created to wage slave and worship the successful) as truth
