do you remember what pod that was

I never expected Joe to like Cudi but I'm interested in hearing him discuss him

That was from todays episode, when they were talking about Cudis podcast. They didnt really get far with it though.

Also joe kinda touched on it a lil when when they brought up Cudi and he said to rory “i dont put respect on any of the rappers you hipsters ushered in”. I think Joe views Kanye similarly as someone who gets too much gas from “hipsters” (which he really means white people)

yeah i feel like he maybe means hypebeats too and just a certain type of youth culture he associates with white people lol. cos tbh the people i know who i'd call 'hipsters' are probably on artists like RTJ rather than anybody as commercial as cudi/ye

I was confused with what he was getting at with the friendships thing? It seemed he tried to walk it back cos if he was gonna say that about Cudi it just seems stupid. I think Cudi earns being in the studio with all those major artists even if people don't like him. Some artists are just there cos they're a rapper's friend or whatever, but Cudi made the hooks and bridges for father stretch my hands, day n nite, all of the lights, gorgeous, through the late night etc. He helped define part of the whole good music/new ye sound when ye was trying to work out what the second phase of his career was going to be. I'm not as big a Cudi fan as a lot of people on here, but i'm surprised joe wouldn't at least respect him as a writer

Joe knew that friendship argument was dumb as s*** when they started joking about NWA not being friends.

That RTJ thing is funny though cause Joe knows and loves Killer Mike but doesnt even know El-P’s name. He called him Julz or some s***.

Yeah, that was funny. I feel like Joe just likes to go out on those arguments to make the podcast better.

lool, i love killer mike and prefer him as a MC to El-P, but El-P can rap and he's crucial to the sound. He's always had a great sound for Mike, like when he produced solo Mike music like Reagan.

I was more saying, I love RTJ but they seem like the hipster rap duo rn more than anybody else. But he probably just means the sort of hype crowd that people like ye had a lot of influence over at that time

i get this vibe from them but that's not how Joe was talking about Ye around Pablo, so it feels like after the Trump stuff and the quality of music dropping people like Joe have started to knock ye's entire career more. joe is probably like a lot of hip hop heads who prefer kanye when he's producing for other people

Even during Pablo Joe has always shaded Kanye. They've alluded to it numerous times on the podcast that it might have something to do with them both being at Def Jam and Ye taking priority. You gotta remember, Joe is the same nigga that vehemently denied MBDTF being a classic, until they absolutely killed him on Twitter.

I don’t understand the Troy Ave hate other than bias for Tax.

Objectively Troy is not wrong. The guy antagonized him for years and finally implied a threat on his life, did something, and got the lesser end of the stick. Yet mfs are dissing Ave like he did something wrong.

    Someone explain this to me.

I don't remember but you're probably right. I just remember Joe going on some rant when Pablo dropped about how Kanye was one of the only few to make incredible albums this many times etc.

I remember that now-because of Lost in the World or some s*** which is bullshit, because expanding hip hop's reach to include artists like Bon Iver is part of what makes kanye a legendary artist

that's not really kanye's fault tho. It's obvious why kanye was going to take priority, and kanye felt the same way about how he was getting treated by the label for years before 2004. But an artist with a number one making hit songs for other artists, including Jay Z was always going to get a lot of label attention. Joe should be mad at the label not Ye, and if it was the other way round do you really think Joe would be worrying about Kanye not getting enough attention? Joe is a solid rapper but it feels like he's found his path way more doing what he's doing now, even if it's not his dream he is contributing a lot. Joe said himself that Kanye's kept the lights on at Def Jam over the last few years given Bieber not been releasing, so imagine how much leverage kanye would have had to get what he wanted in the 2000s, not just financially but creative given they had him as a regular producer too.

Troy Ave was Takeshi before Takeshi. Running around like he was a street nigga, calling everybody "weirdos". When s*** came to head with him and Tax's crew, Troy Ave turned p**** (always been one) since his man (Banga) died. Now he's gonna take the stand and testify against Tax.

I ain’t watching that, but Dre>>>>>>>Kanye in terms of hits, impact, influence etc.

    I don’t think that was a debate

The problem was the way Parks and Joe was being hell of disrespectful to Ye

Niggas even asked what has Kanye influenced

  • f*** that nigga troy. hope they throw the book at him.

it was all streets when you was dissing Capital right?

but now it's a myth when you wanna take the stand.

Tax’s fingerprints are on the gun. He’s f***ed regardless.

Testifying exonerates Troy more than it places Tax in jail. And gangsta or not Troy was letting that s*** pop when it came down to it.

-NWA being forefathers of the gangsta rap genre
-The face of the signature G Funk sound for the West Coast
-Artists that came under Dre impacting the culture way more than any of Kanye’s artists
