I’d be surprised if the Obama podcast sustains a large listenership over the course of a year
if donald steals another term you bet people will be listening in then

If the show is good, than it should. She’s as famous as a big guest you can get, and listening to her in interviews with late nights hosts, I’d be surprised if the podcast is bad tbh.
Btw I don’t see how what sport is doing with podcast be effective if you don’t have to pay to listen to them. I only ever use Spotify for the pod and nothing else. I feel like the exclusive podcasts are going to have to behind a paywall eventually.
The more people using your platform, the greater chance of them spending money on your platform. Then there is the raw number component for advertisers. If JBP brings x amount of people, then that’s more ad dollars for Spotify potentially, since they can say their platform draws in x amount of people daily/weekly etc.

they are banking on ads and the users using spotify as the go to hub for podcasts and music
s*** getting real
They will probably do like Flagrant2. They will release 1 free podcast every week and 1 podcast on Patreon.
They will start doing ads, maybe take interviews for money.
Ain’t nobody paying to be interviewed in 2020 lol

Yeah, but I don’t hear any ad when listening to the joe pod and quickly dismiss the ones they place when you open the app. Spotify probably wanted baked in ads in the show is my guess.

Music makes sense since if you want the best experience you have to pay for it, but not with podcasts at the moment. That’s why I believe they might put ads in the episodes for free listeners and say be premium ember for no ads or just put their exclusive pod on pay tier only.

This. They offered a considerable amount of $ if they put these general ads in the pod but joe said no cause it was irrelevant to the pod i think
"It was our desire to keep Joe Budden on Spotify. As Joe referenced on his show, we made him a considerable offer — one that was significantly larger and many times the value of the existing agreement and reflective of the current market and size of his audience. Unfortunately, we could not come to terms and we respect his wishes to find a new home for his show."
Yo the offer allegedly was LARGER. What the f*** else did Joe want lol. I can't imagine rory, mal and Parks are happy about this. Like Joe wanted to be head of Spotify Pod division or something

Joe did negotiate not to have ads on his pod

Ads arent that bad tho and you can easily skip em idk what Joe's thinking

got offered 150k in ads for 8 episodes. That stinks. Plus if you skip an ad you don't get paid.

Yeah for some reason they don’t understand that lol. I skip ads on every podcast especially Rogan where you gotta set the start time for his episodes like 6mins because of his ads
If this don’t work out for joe for trying to outsmart the machine..... talk about fumbling the bag 😂
Just like Complex, Joe must have been asking for ridiculous compensation with the leverage or no leverage he got

That's different tho. He gets paid for that. On spotify you have to interact with the ad to get paid

Charlamagne : Joe Budden is person who knows his worth but doesn't know how to properly negotiate it ...

Agreed though, that’s doesn’t change the fact that listeners can easily skip them I’m assuming.

He’s said on the podcast what the deal entailed. It was a 360 deal.
They only do 1 podcast and he wants to call himself a network
I see what he's tryna say but he just sounds corny saying it like that

Yea Joe is in over his head. He has bright ideas but its just he and Ian. They need to expand their team cause they could be doing a whole lot more
