this wouldn't really break "the curse" to me because again Last of Us itself as a game is based on movie stories. I get what they are saying though and I am all for it but Last of Us 1 itself melds game and movie in terms of what you expect of story wise

My thought exactly. I’m sure the show will be fine, but they’re acting like it’s gonna some breakthrough moment when the video game is already modeled like a movie

So was Uncharted & it still was the most braindead generic action movie possible.

If this is respectfully adapted & well-written, it will definitely be the game-changer people are saying it can be.

Nah let’s be honest, Neil is doing this on purpose but is he not aware nobody wants the conversation of this to now be about woke politics from right wingers instead of the actual show overall

I love all of the casting choices except when it comes to the most important character

All I know of Chernobyl is that it’s based on a real historical event and that setting up the vibes for what I know about TLOU is terrifying

    Watch it ASAP

Do you think with Uncharted they made any sort of effort? Uncharted is comparable to Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider and more. They just threw star power at it and were soul less. No part of that was "curse". They threw multiple games into one movie. They made the main character young. They just entirely didn't give a f***

Last of Us being a successful tv show isn't breaking a curse or the lack of effort we will likely see in Fallout, Gears of War, God of War and more

You’re saying what I’m saying in my post.

Last Of Us can break that “curse” by showing executives that effort goes a long way with videogame adaptations, not unlike book adaptations.

In a way yes. There is a difference in scope though. That is why I say movie game. Not as an insult but a game that is already hugely like a movie or tv show isn't cursed. They know its not cursed. Sony knows they could have put effort into an uncharted movie or tv show. They don't care. They want the money and know the fans will show up regardless or throw a demo or dumb s*** with it. Uncharted made 401 million. Tomb Raider 274 million. The list goes on. Sonic made 300 million. Detective Pikachu in the 400 millions.

Like there is no curse in "not investing in writing" that is a choice that is all I am saying. Book movies with great writing or adaptation fail too for one reason or another.

Effort can go a long way but it depends on if a fanbase cares about effort or if they just want to see characters on the screen. If they want something that reaches out to more people and makes them want to play a game ( so it goes both ways which you could say all the movies above didn't really make someone want to play a game). However if you are talking about success from live action or tv show to game it would go to Witcher and Cyberpunk

If you are talking live action awards then I get you but Cyberpunk show lead to people playing the game . Arcane won consistent awards too

those a bigger in scope movies and budgets needed due to creature design and cgi. Last of Us benefits from focus on humanity ( which is good). Gears of war the budget would be crazy. God of War budget would also be crazy. If anything is the "curse" for anime or gaming its the amount of risk from amount of cgi, tech and budget you need for it not to look goofy. Gaming stories have been respectable enough to be movies for like 2 decades a lil under

There you have it folks, over 100 actresses auditioned for Ellie and Bella was the one who best captured the essence of Ellie's character

I've been saying this would be the case
