I know exactly what the director means though, and it makes complete sense
I Am Legend doesn’t have the look that the director is wanting to do for the sequel
If you look back at the production designs of I Am Legend, there isn’t much overgrowth of nature. Nature hasn’t reclaimed the world yet
He wants the see the entire city completely taken over by nature

If you need to go with an alternate ending / deleted scene as cannon. That is bound to cause confusion. But I’m open to it. Loved I am legend and think the alternate ending is better tbh
