Whole season feels like a prologue for season 2 rather than its own season

felt like a prologue to me up until Tess died

This episode is kinda all the proof we need that great games can't be turned into shows.

The scenes where Ellie mentions Sarah, Joel agrees to take Ellie instead of Tommy, and Joel getting stabbed were all done so much better in the game.

S*** seemed kinda rushed with little tension in the show, and these are some of the peak moments of the game.

    Great episode tho lol.

Why do you think they didn’t hit ? Not disagreeing just trying to pinpoint the why

I thought the same thing lmaoo.

I was like damn so he's just gonna abandon her with his brother who really doesn't wanna do it? Then he just wakes up with a change of heart out of no where.

I was like ummm, I didn't play the game but that seemed a lil sloppy

Not enough character development maybe. Not enough tension. These scenes all seemed rushed.

Ellie thinking of Joel as a father figure doesn't seem as believable in the show compared to the game.

In the game it basically is a tutorial until Tess dies

I get it, it didn't seem very natural in the show. In the game these scenes were all much more believable.

I disagree heavily lol. The moment in the room with Joel and Ellie was so much better on the show. The college stuff was definitely rushed and better in the game. We probably could have done with a full college episode

Haven’t played the game but I feel pretty convinced with their chemistry

Maybe that’s gives how it’s done in the game more credence but I feel convinced with the show

Since it seems there are ppl that didn't play the game itt, I'll spoiler this

in the game Ellie overhears Joel talking to Tommy and runs off. There was so much build up to that scene. In the show, he just goes to their house and all of a sudden she just seemed upset? That entire scene was completely rushed in the show. Cmon lol

Plus so much happen in the college in the game that build up Joel and Ellies relationship. Here it was basically a 4 min scene lol.

Ngl I expected a lot more combat this episode. I kept thinking about the part in game at the university where some raider smacks Ellie in the face with a metal pipe

I was like damn are they gonna recreate that?

    Still great episode

I would have ended episode 6 on the big moment where Joel decides that he's gonna take Ellie.

Episode 7 should have been the university alone. Plenty of good moments for character development/bonding between them considering they've just had this massive emotional moment. And could have had some actual scares and action and tension. End with Joel stabbed.

Episode 8 intersperse Left Behind with the David stuff. Chunky episode.

    9 the end.

she overheard Joel and Tommy on the show too. To me if she ran away that just would have been unnecessary. In the game it's used to introduce a combat sequence, but in the show the viewer woulda been so annoyed with Ellie. I just don't agree that it was rushed on the show. The college stuff 100% was rushed though

I dont agree they should have spent an entire episode on the university. All the dialogue they got down in that bonding montage. They got the monkeys. ETC. However the combat sequence could have been extended. Legit only like 2 more minutes and i would be happy. No need to waste an entire episode on the university

I certainly felt like after such a massive emotional blowout there was more room for them to bond before what happens to Joel and the desperate lengths Ellie's about to go to keep him alive. That love isn't quite feeling established to me.

Would have been a nice opportunity to actually have them deal with infected hands-on (considering those scenes have been so sparse). And then it would have actually allowed them to establish raiders as something to be feared. As opposed to what we got, which was just a few uncoordinated guys with pipes. Plus in those scenes they could have had Ellie actually getting somewhat involved in the combat, which is important for her character development, especially by this point.

Plus, in the game I recall Joel feeling a lot more frustration and worry about whether they were actually ever going to find Fireflies. They were trawling through building after building for any clue. Here it was near instant and then just immediate acceptance of 'oh they've moved on, that's okay, no worries'. No acknowledgment of the massive toll this journey is taking. in the game there's so much relief and catharsis when we do actually catch up with the Fireflies. There's so much mystique built up around them. I don't see that feeling at all the same in the show.
