DwindlingSunI've articulated this many times now over the past few pages, and likely far better than I'm about to.
The main character literally just got stabbed, fatally for all we know, and there was absolutely zero real tension there for us as the viewer. Some bozos with pipes turned up and that was it. They got dealt with in 2 seconds and somehow Joel had been stabbed. There was no actual fear factor whatsoever. I implore you to go back to the game, play through that scene, or just watch it, and don't tell me your heart isn't pounding out your chest in the game version Vs the show. That is such a f***ing massive moment/encounter and it's beyond watered down and rushed through in the show.
There is a vast difference between showing us a horde and our protagonists actually taking on dangers themselves. I'm not calling for them to take on that horde, or armies of infected, or raiders every episode. But they are not doing a good job at conveying that joel at least is capable and hardened, and willing to commit the necessary violence to keep Ellie safe in this world. And vice-versa, that Ellie is understanding exactly what the stakes are like in the world outside QZ's, and adapting accordingly. That is not being portrayed effectively.
It's not enough to show that the world is 6/10 dangerous or even 8/10. The world should be absolutely terrifying. Every step they take. Not this sauntering about without a care in the world, fighting f*** all enemies - and then when they do run into some, a single bozo with a pipe somehow gets the jump on Joel and manages to magically f***ing stab him.
Honestly there’s just no way joel thought he could go to the horse and not expect it to be scouted out already?

I get not reading notes but were listening audio recordings too game like ? Cold opens were audio recordings for a moment . Feels like the cold open or slight cold open before we see Joel and Ellie go to university of seeing the college handle outbreak and or the fireflies operate out of there to give the viewer a better idea of fireflies operation and what they were like was right there . College also mirroring a parent choosing to give their child a choice to go away from them risking dangers . Hope Craig says if they had cold open ideas for second half of season. Breaking up some stuff with that would hit . The Easter eggs to 2 obviously cool and nice touch but building the world has been my favorite part of the show just as reading notes and audio logs favorite story telling of games
