Oh I understand why it’s different and I don’t expect it to be anything close, but that’s kind of why I feel they shouldn’t take lines directly from the game so much.

I also understand it just can’t have the depth that a 15 hour game can, and it has to be accessible to more than just the fans. I think it’s doing as good of a job as it could really. But I still think it’s valid to critique it, even as a big fan.

I was actually surprised how much they included from that chapter of the game and they cut what I thought they would (Ellie and David in the mill section). I honestly didn’t think they’d take it as far with David and his intent with Ellie and they handled her side of that perfectly.

I am worried about the second / maybe third season though and them possibly playing it safe, which is something the second game did not do. I just want the same risks to be taken. But again I understand it has to be accessible but hopefully they’ll push some of the heavier aspects a little harder the next season.

I see them being more faithful to game 2 than 1 in gameplay and dialogue. Who knows though

It builds out David’s group more but some of the parts they cut feel more worth it for me than Alec daughter wanting to kill or that whole scene foreshadowing . David established as evil already and even gives a monologue about cordyceps and evil / violence heart that I think was a lil hamfisted but for an audience that may never play the game I get it

One thing I’d like to have seen but obviously won’t ever get would be the current state of Jakarta, especially since it was site zero after the bombings etc.

Just more cold opens in general I understand not filming in Jakarta for full thing but would have been a great human side story to use cold opens to tell the stories of notes and letters / set tone of episode .

Agreed. Wonder if they’d want to have spin offs which tell different perspectives (shorter stories) of the global outbreak. Something like a Black Summer kind of vibe. I’d enjoy that but perhaps they’d just want to keep to the core characters.

I’m against spin offs to be honest . Cold opens or small moments that all tie into main story can accomplish that. I feel like I expected cold opens to reinforce how a vaccine could help , fireflies, fedra and larger plot / where they lie in all of that . As well as occasionally notes . Losing notes and gameplay lost some of soul for me but still think for show only watchers this hits well and some game players . For me to get it at a 10 it would have to balance a few more of those things.

I thought they did a good job making it look like Boston in the show instead of just a generic city
