Ellie played into being his daughter like figure. Like Yes she pretends to be against it because she knows he lied, but she was fine with the attachment

to be fair all of them still being alive only made so much sense because Ellie is meant to be shown close to Marlene since Marlene is her closest thing to a mom. So why logically would she never see Marlene again unless Marlene was dead. Marlene has known ellie much longer than Joel

Not denying that - but the fact of that matter is that Ellie is not Joels daughter and I grow tired of people trying to use their own kids as a 1:1 for supporting Joel as a mass murderer lol

Idk if the “blood daughter” aspect matters much . With everything they went through i don’t know if her being his technical daughter would change much about the perception people have on their relationship . Most people are fully aware of your point when they project this situation but i don’t think it’s a big factor for most people . Blood daughter or not majority of us views the dynamic as a father/daughter dynamic anyways. In a world like “the last of us” that is practically his kid by the end of the first part.

Nah like I feel you 100% and I get it. Of course their relationship is paternal and of course Ellie plays into the daughter thing - I have no issues with how it plays out, or how it’s interpreted, or anything of the sorts.

I’m just saying, I get so tired of the “well that’s what I’d do for my kid” line. I just think it’s a boring / lazy / nuance-lacking a***ysis of if all.

Like they try to make it seem like

1. this lie would bother ellie
2. Ellie doesnt like the father daughter relationship
3. Ellie wanted her life to mean something and would sacrifice herself if she had the choice

but she literally just saw the worst of humanity that can exist in anyone in david, kathleen and all of these people. Like yes a Sam and Henry would benefit from the vaccine but would it even make it to them? A Riley would benefit and it would make it to her but it wouldn't make it to everyone. Its still a horrific world of humans and yes I get not wanting infected in every episode but in this season humanity was a much exponentially bigger enemy than infected even more so than the game 1 balance.
