I mean there’s a reason why they held on the doctor lmaooo
Really lame ass way to do it. You don't care for it. You don't pay attention to it.
Then in season 2
ohhhh it's the doctor Joel shot in 2 seconds and the camera held onto it for 10 more seconds

LMFAO
bro massacred an entire hospital left no survivors even people putting down their guns but that doctor the final war crime

I know you feel this way, and many others do too.
But this first sentence is always weird to be because years removed from the first game the doctor is the most memorable thing you kill in the massacre to me. I did care and I did pay attention to it???

yes since Marlene is in a cutscene I do agree here. I mean the soldiers in game you don't have to kill so
The only thing I think they truly failed at execution of their goal was making the massacre sad
I honestly think they still could have fleshed out the ending and still have a plot twist.
That plot twist is built on the 2nd game being made 6-7 years after the first one dropped lol.
A lot of people had a "huh" reaction to a random npc character being killed and their family wants revenge
i dont get the feeling that the time between games is why it works
its talked about all the time in both games that joel has done horrible things that will catch up to him eventually but i think the intro of part 2 plays completely on peoples opinion of joel being the good guy just because hes the main character and the guy you play as nearly the whole game, he dies and you still feel bad they use it as a way to connect us to ellies journey in this game to go get revenge and kill the bad guys and then they connect his death directly to the biggest debate in the whole game the debate that ellie is also currently struggling with and has been for years. in the first game you just have the main character you're connected to killing random soulless npcs in the hospital now you have the human embodiment of the effects that had on people with abby. if they fleshed out the doctor in this and were like hey this guy is a FATHER it completely removes their ability to play off the opinion that most viewers will have of joel
i think they did just enough by focusing on his dead body in this episode anyway, i think just that small change will make it feel a little less sudden when the reveal happens in season 2
Epic fail
The only thing I think they truly failed at execution of their goal was making the massacre sad
i found the massacre sad from a "wow joel is really unhinged" pov. not sure if that is the sadness the game captures but. between the last two episodes joel got really really dark,
Episode complete
7.5 season
Some creative directing decisions I think could’ve been done. Really only detriment was the 9 episodes just because the pacing didn’t really let that relationship have the time it really needed to hook the audience.
But that’s the standard for tv nowadays so it was it is
9/10 first season
my dream adaption come true and they nailed it
i loved it

I agree with all this just wish the time skip was covered at least in show because the part I want to see is the characters right after this . Joel not changing that much after doing all this or being wholesome looks silly to me

You deserve overall W
Anyways The episode was horrible. Joel didn't die 63 times, didn’t take him 4+ hours and Multiple controller throws, and didn't use a flamethrower to set the doctor on fire. 0/10 this show sucks.
I remember there being a lot of game between the last episode and the finale which made it feel like they rushed but I guess my memory is wrong

No I know the reason. Just being cynical as a video game player.

Can we get some stealth ?
Can we get some stealth ?
0 brick throws to distract a guard so you can stealth kill another? What is Neil thinking!

felt this the whole i was just thinking that i must have sucked at this s*** because it took me like double the time to get here

They did cut out a 20-30 minute tunnel section where they just kill infected and Joel grabs planks for Ellie to swim on. But that’s all they cut from this episode. That part has 0 character development or plot

im surprised they never did the pallet in the water scene just to get some people to point at the screen

I say this respectfully but do you think all the gameplay parts they cut don’t develop the characters ?

The ladder was point at screen moment

Some parts they cut did. Bills town, infected with David, Sam and Henry getting split up in the sewer. But none of those are “pivotal” must have scenes for me and you don’t miss much character wise not including them. But they did develop the characters
