here are some links. similar stories came out about rockstar with toxic working conditions for rdr2. gonna happen in any industry with releasing big products but yikes

    https://kotaku.com/as-naughty-dog-crunches-on-the-last-of-us-ii-developer-1842289962

    https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2020/03/14/naughty-dog-crunch-report-corroborated/

Druckmann threatening employees came from a twitter thread I can’t find rn but will link it when I do. Lot of other dirt/rumors on him too. May have forced out tlou1’s codirector (druckmann is credited as sole writer for first game). Unbelievably talented dude who’s got his name on all of ND’s best games but never meet your heroes vibe I guess.

    I can see it tbh.

Such big games like TLOU2 and RDR2 are so amazing, it boggles me just thinking how people were able make such detailed games.

I guess it comes at the price of overworking your employees to achieve your deadlines and budgets.

Yeah definitely. Can relate to game companies screwing over contractors, the way contracted employees (nearly all are foreigners on work visa) are treated at my company is really s***ty. basically cutting corners so they can hire more labor without having to pay full time salaries/benefits. hilarious to see so many companies paint their PR image with corny s*** then pull stuff like this. Hype up diversity but exploit their biggest POC employee base

finally finished. only thing i don't like is that ellie didn't die. when abby killed joel everything was even. could've killed ellie but there was no reason to. one father for the other (even though one joel death isn't equal to the entire fireflies dying). then ellie and tommy go and kill everyone in WLF and when it comes around for abby to kill ellie again (with more reason to kill her after how many more ppl they've killed from her group since then), she shows mercy. then years later ellie still goes after abby. what??

wtf is this double standard, asks to spare dina cause she's pregnant but murked mel . then she does and ellie still wants revenge??

did joel deserve to die that early? idk but his death was certainly reasonable. joel should've died 100%.

also ellie hates joel for taking her from the fireflies but if joel's death is because of that wouldn't her wanting revenge justify what he did?

That ex fireflies s*** would've been so on the nose and boring. The Last of Us 2 is not about the greater good, finding the cure or even revenge on Joel.

At its core it's about personal relationships, being it the only thing that keeps the characters going in this post apocalyptic world. And how far are they willing to go to prove their love, to keep it safe, without hurting their loved ones or themselves in the process.

The biggest issue for the main protagonists is that new world humanizes violence. It's the currency of getting s*** done. But where does that violence end?

Abby and Ellie are at the center of that. They are the same girl, touched and intertwined by the same trauma. Which is losing a father. The entire game lets us a player see how destructive love can be and how Abby and Ellie cope differently.

Abby's revenge gets her caught up in the morals of civil war. Which humanizes her. She gets a shot of perspective of goodness and hope in the world, fed by Owen, Lev and Yara. She decides to let Ellie live and hope for a better life elsewhere with Lev.

Ellie despite being offered the same hopeful perspective of a better life ( Dina professing her love and promising a future together) still can't come to the realization that the violence needs to end somewhere. And at the end the game it cost her everything for absolutely nothing in return.

    It's actually quite brilliant storytelling.

I think you completely missed what I said. I understand the relationship part. I'm more so speaking on Abby's motivation and how they wanted us to care about her. The revenge plot is a cool concept, just not with Abby. They wanted us to feel sympathy for her and just when you do start to be like "ight I get it" they throw in her flashback where clearly her dad was a piece of s*** and only saw other people as test subjects or experiments. He had no remorse that he was about to kill a child and not even give Joel a heads up. He only saw Ellie as what Marlene described as another specimen in a petri-dish.

    1. Ellie didn't know Mel was pregnant until after killing her

    2. I don't remember Ellie saying she knew that Abby's dad was the surgeon, she only said that she knew Joel got killed because he ruined the chance at a vaccine

    3. Dina and Ellie, although still tormented were beginning to move forward until Tommy reignited the flame

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about that ending... I loved the game but had some gripes about playing as Abby for so long but why in the literal f*** would you not let us kill her? And then you play a depressing ass scene of Joel and Ellie? Cmon bruh

My main issue was the placement of the switch to Abby. Happened at such a crucial scene, I found myself rushing through just to see what would happen at the theater.

Yea esp when you're back in the theatre and Abby shoots Tommy in the back of the head, assuming he’s dead, then you continue on as Abby to kill Ellie

The cycle of violence needed to end eventually

And Ellie remembering that time of her talking to Joel on the porch was also a big moment. Ellie told Joel that she wasnt sure she could forgive Joel, but she would try.
She is trying to do the same for Abby now

if you think the ending up was bad you are literally stupid as f*** no other way to put it.

the game isn't black or white in fact the world of the last of us isn't black or white. saying this static thing happened and i'm not happy with it is such a cop out, there are so many intricacies to the plot and choices characters make.

I'm curious as to why Joel was lying to Tommy at the beginning of the game about not telling Ellie?

It goes from - He hasn't told Ellie the truth, he told her part of the truth to she's known all along.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but does anyone have any ideas as to why it was painted in that sequence?

love your avi. I know there's not going to be a DLC but if there was I would want it to be Yara and Lev escaping their island and finding Abby in the woods

I think there was already tension between Ellie and Joel in Jackson so Joel probably felt like if I tell Tommy him and his wife are going to try and fix it or cause a scene. idk but I get your point
