The Limit AKA Oattes Van Schaik is a Dutch Electro-Funk, Synth Pop band. Hailing from Netherlands. The group consisted of Dutch producers Bernard Oattes and Rob van Schaik. The group was only active from the early to mid 80s and had a big UK/US dance hit with the song "Say Yeah"(Fall 1984). However, I feel that song undersells who they truly were as artists. The group had a unique dope mix of Funk, Boogie, New Wave, and Pop. Examples below show the variety of their style.:
Although short lived and the members went on to do production for others. The Dutch Funk group had a huge impact on the present day Future Funk and Vaporwave scenes. Has been sampled by a few of the key artists of those movements:
CAPE CORAL - Querelle
Childhood - Love Attax Replay
Beerlover - Lovin Touch
For those that like:
The System
Toro Y Moi
Qendresa
Jungle
Saint Pepsi
Their full album is up on Youtube and there is a few playlists that were created to showcase not just the album cuts but B-Sides, loosies, and remixes they've done throughout the time period. Enjoy!
