I respect his conviction about this but also feels like such a weird thing to pearl clutch about

    He's really religious

I think it’s interesting that Gen Z has swapped out alcoholism with sports gambling as their vice of choice

    It's not really a choice
It's by design of the producers

Bag Rejectors (players who take lower salaries to help their team's have depth):

Jalen Brunson: initial people thought he was overpaid (allegations promptly proven false upon arrival with knicks to start his contract), has resigned two more contract extensions both for much less than he is entitled to

Tim Duncan, Manu & Tony: took lower salaries to allow depth, note that this has a technicality to it as Tim Duncan's prime ended much sooner than people acknowledge thus he wasn't actually a max player for many of his later years, although he did re-elevate his level of player in some later years after his initial regression (see 'Chris Paul Late Career Resurgence' phenomenon)

Lebron, Wade & Bosh during their 4 years as the Big 3: took lower salaries to play together

    Honourable Mention:
Scottie Pippen: was underpaid for the majority of his later Bulls tenure due to an old contract that 'seemed good at the time'

Bag Fumblers are a separate category, these incude Victor Oladipo, Dennis Schroder (he claims this allegation is false), Montrezl Harrell & Demarcus Cousins

    Note:
Isaiah Thomas doesn't count as a fumbler due to his team not offering a proper contract after his playing through injury (see 'Unhonoured Sacrifice' stipulation & 'NBA Faux Loyalty' phenomenon)
(Nested Note: this is in contrast to the 'Honoured Sacrifice' stipulation, see Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant & Kawhi Leonard)

Fake Humble Bag Hoarders (players who put up the facade of any of the following being low-key/humble/unmaterialistic/not caring about individual accolades, stardom or money, that still sign for as much money as possible without taking less to allow their team's to have more depth)

These players may publicly say things along the lines of 'Basketball is not that important' 'there's more to life'

Note: players who hype their loyalty to their team may be included in this category by default

Some players included in this category:

Kawhi Leonard: does nothing to promote the NBA off the court but all reports suggest he asks for extreme superstar treatment, while other player's promotion means their contract value is astronomically higher than their salary, Kawhi does almost nothing to promote the NBA

Giannis Antetokounmpo: genuinely came from a humble background but he has been dancing around wanting to leave Milwaukee for several seasons, frequently making statements suggesting he wants to leave, it has been argued that he doesn't want to be seen as a Villain like Miami Lebron so he will never ask for a trade

Nikola Jokic: he genuinely enjoys life in Serbia with his horses more than the NBA but he also has an unbothered outward presentation which portrays the idea that he doesn't care about any of the benefits of the NBA lifestyle or getting awards. The mask occasionally slips when he makes comments in interviews that show he does care about awards or when he makes comments that can be dismissive or seemingly disrespectful digs at his contemporaries. His recent comments about loyalty ignore the reality of other players being failed by their front offices. Furthermore NBA loyalty is a flimsy concept (see 'NBA Faux Loyalty' phenomenon)

Notes: Kawhi's missed games are not accounted for in this due to him having valid injuries & him sustaining two career altering injuries due to medical staff failings

I just hate that this is a W from the prudish, classic conservative crowd. It's all about control over women and the fetishisation of innocence--look into Kornet's background. He's a devout Catholic and likely conservative.

Corporations pick and choose their moral wins if they feel there's little risk in it (who gives a f*** about the Hawks, anyway?)

They won't do anything to stop the immorality of gambling or participation in supporting genocidal states like Israel and Rwanda

I understand why someone like Luke would have an issue with it. From what I understand the promotion was just gonna be a T shirt and some special chicken wings.

It’s pretty weird to have a strip club promotion at a family event. The counter to that argument is obviously gonna be they serve alcohol and promote gambling but it’s not really the same

The gambling definitely shouldn't be there either tbh

Nobody on this site is Gen Z

Sorry I don’t want my niece to see strip club advertisements when she watches sports

Huh? Most of this site is Gen Z

And you’re okay with your niece seeing gambling advertisements while she watches sports instead?

I think you're both wrong, there's a clear difference between gambling and Magic city. the reason why it's brought up often is from a moral corporate standpoint, and yes there are zoomers on this site like myself

I think people r just missing the idea that magic city is bigger than a strip club

One is objectively worse than the other though that’s not even a question

in this case? ofc, a kid won't think deeply when seeing the words "magic city" and having a rap song played

but if you're talking about where the strip club aspect is not obscured, then it's definitely worse for a child to be exposed to that

Right, but that’s not what was gonna take place at this event
