Real answer is college life in japan isn't viewed how we view it in the west

High school is seen as the most free spirited and fun time of people's lives in Japan. With college being viewed as much more dull and boring to them I guess. Probably cuz of the crazy work hours and work ethic they got over there. Hence why you see so many anime and what not staring teenagers instead of people in their 20s

And the fact that it's a high school sim is a huge selling point in Japan, so they probably not changing that formula anytime soon

ive hrd 4 yrs 1 and 2 were low key the best in the series

They are story wise for sure (and character wise). But with that said some people really like the social aspects of the newer games and the distinct aesthetic each has. That also makes them long as s*** but enjoyable.

It’s probably gonna stay in high school as that’s the formula they’ve had and has brought more success than ever. And every anime trope in the book
