Because if drake thinks its good enough to put out knowing it will sell extremley well he must be confident in the music. I dont care if they are leaks. He thought they were good enough to put out and thats the standard i hold him to because its a project he put on streaming which sold like 300k first week. If he wants to release music i dont need to hear the lore behind where the songs came from. He released them to the public

I mean I agree to a extent. I'm not the biggest fan of ddlt but I just see it as him making songs that are already out in the open and leaked, accessible to his fans that been begging for him to put it on streaming and making money off it as well. He probably thinks the songs were good enough to be released but not good enough to be on the album

I consider the leaks from the actual album as more of an indicator, lotta 42, not around, lie to me, etc.

Wtf? Fixated? I made a thread that took one minute to type. To create discussion on a Music forum... what's the issue?

No one using it as a crutch. The album was great. But op seems confused on why it sounds like a mixtape and I'm saying it was originally a mixtape, hence it being rap heavy and lack of conceptual songs

And that is exactly what mixtapes were for back in the day lol. Cuts that didn't make the album cause they weren't good enough

Who said it was originally a mixtape??

They legitimately discuss this man more than the Cole sxn does and claim to be bored of him

Nah u and whoever agrees with that are absolute slow in the head morons

We're on a Music forum and y'all are confused about why I'm talking about music? Are u slow?

It's not like this is a straight hate thread saying the albums trash. I said the rapping is decent to above average at times. FOH

Idc cause Hunger on Hillside is still one of the top 5 songs of the year, one of the best songs to come out in the past few years, and one of the best songs in J Cole discography.

I just think if a rapper ESSPECIALY a top 3 rapper in popularity chooses to drop a project you cant expect me to listen to it thinking you cant judge the state of their music making ability off of that most recent project. These people are practically brands and if they want to drop something knowing it will sell hundreds of thousands first week and at the same time not be judged by that album as a indicator of where their quality of music is right now its insane. Its like these guys think they can drop something but at the same time not drop it. Its hilirious that some people consider drakes last album to be from 2018

Hmm I guess that's fair enough, especially if ur not privy to the history behind the projects. I just wouldn't judge it THAT harshly as it wasn't supposed to come out in the first place

The whole "its a mixtape" crutch is such bullshit. Same thing was used with dldt. Do you think rappers are only using like half their power level when they claim their album is a mixtape like this is an anime? If they go into the booth and spit their verses and they arent amazing you cant blame it on being a mixtape

No literally it was gonna be a mixtape that lead into The Fall Off but later advertised as an album leading into another album
