Does anyone feel like film culture is too up tight, like yes I understand that there is something overtly academic about a space about dissection and decision but I feel like it's up it's own ass.

Like I hate that people will devalue my opnions on things because I speak in aave and aren't overly formalistic in comments and decisions for example. I feel like it's gate keeping for the sake of "feeling smart"

Not really, no. People are free to engage with their media however they want. People being d***s has less to do with film culture and more to do with them just being d***s.

Depends on which avenue of film culture you’re talking about. Because some of it is developed in an academic context or at least from an academic base. Less to do w vernacular and moreso with which type of film sphere (incl. of foreign and/or old film; auteur-based; particular genre or ‘moment’ of film history) the community considers to be its foundational base. Because that’s where the inclusivity knowledge comes into gatekeeping I think

Reddit for example has a couple different film cultures even tho reddit itself is already one sort of specific culture

That wasn’t well written, but basically yes & no

    Absolutely

With music Lil Nas X can post to his soundcloud and make it to the grammys that same year. With fashion ian connor can sell like $500k worth of vans in a day somehow. Film hasn't been democratized to that point yet. It might have something to do with that.

I'm young rn but as I keep shooting videos and moving up in the industry my primary goal will be to change that

it's funny because the film makers themselves don't even be like that a lot of the time, just look at Tarantino

This sounds more like you’re engaging in these conversations with white people (or people outside your own culture)

    Advice, stop

Those folks likely wouldn’t value your opinion on anything. ktt a safe space tho
