But Kendrick/frank end up with the better project...

I’m just talkin about the working process not the outcome

Obviously Kenny and Frank take their music more serious, you know?

Cause there is no central theme
Songs on the project itself are fine imo except for a few
Plus judging by the leaks he made alot more i mean theres even unreleased kanye collabs lol

    Central theme =/= work ethic/perfecting

He is. Definitely. But to me he failing. And I don’t mean commercially I mean you would think he’d have a classic after all them yearly gaps

Testing and his first tape are his classics but niggas would lynch me lmfao.

feel like me and my homies got the complete opposite ears than most ppl when it comes to rocky

  • May 25, 2020

Bruh with the whole Sweden s*** and this pandemic Rocky has more than enough material to rap about to create a classic. If this next album is anything less than that then I give up on bruh

Oh s*** i forgot about all that s*** that went down in sweden. Feels like that was 4 years ago lol

Kanye and Kim lobbying Trump to get Rocky freed was the wildest headline, who could've ever predicted any of these ppl would be interacting like that

Not sure how Babushka Boi didn't do better numbers, he had so much attention on him after coming out of Sweden

Yeah but I wouldn’t call it forced tho. I just think they find a groove and it’s hard to get out of that zone. Definitely the case for Kendrick. I think Frank takes a step back at times cus he even said he had writers block for about a year when doing Blonde.

But thing with Frank. Alotta songs on Blonde were like 3-4 years old, so a lot of that time I think is spent fine tuning rather than actual writing and also seeing if the songs stand the test of time

  • May 25, 2020

i think he does think his music is a level like & tries like a kendrick or frank since ALLA.

it just doesnt feel like or comes off as much it for people.

    Yes it does

U mentioned artists that specifically worked around a theme/atmosphere to create, so they narrow it down/perfect it within said brackets

Where as rocky didnt do that formula
He just roamed around and did whatever influenced him or he liked

Some songs will be misses others hits
Tell me how much more you could do with songs like Distorted Records,Tony Tone,Fukk Sleep Buckshots,Og beeper, asap forever, Changes or Gunz n Butter, Kids?

Except his performances (if u didnt like em) i don't think there was much more u could do

Songs like sundress and babushka couldve easily been on Testing

So what i think hes doing now,is taking a few of those elements from testing, narrow it down and create a cohesive album
I think it will be around d**** on some hippie s***

Bruh sometimes I wish drake would just man up and send full out shots and not subs (Not only when it’s in response to someone)

Obviously bruh untouchable and no one gonna try and put a price on his head. Might as well bully a few niggas.

If Drake didn't do subs, he'd making it so that almost every rapper in the game had hoards of goons at their throats at all times, banging on their doors ready to hog tie, pistol whip, and toss them in Lake Ontario with bowling balls chained around their torsos.

It's not cuz he's soft or afraid to name names, its cuz he's giving them a chance to right their wrongs and get it together before unnecessarily costing lives.

I think rocky is as active as ever musically

Im just saying testing wasnt made with a clear direction, literally album title

U could compare it to Untitled Unmastered before that s*** became TPAB

Its like a new blueprint he made for himself

And what do u mean didnt perfect? What songs dont feel finished to u?

That’s my point. Why go 3 years without releasing a project if those 3 years wasn’t spent perfecting that project?

is he obligated to drop music? man drops music when he wants, and when he does its very good for the most part. its not like he spent the 3 years leadin to testing talking s*** about how he was going to drop the greatest project in mankind.

Im gonna need everyone to actually start listening to what Rocky is saying and how he approaches making music and his style before anymore of these threads. I’m TIRED!!!!!

“While crafting the new album, Rocky explains, he’s been working obsessively, to the extent that he’s covered his New York apartment with a sprawling blueprint made up of inspirational images: “It’s kind of like a vision board. I compile different points of reference and print ’em out and put them on the walls, so I live in it. It’s like when you go to a police precinct and the detectives have the investigation laid out.” What kinds of images has he got up? “Mostly pictures of myself,” he says matter-of-factly. When I laugh at this, he elaborates: “You gotta a***yze who you are as an artist and know yourself better than anybody. Then people can never dictate s*** to you.” His eyes widen. “I’m in it, man. I’m chasing the dragon. I’m so fascinated with everything I do, and so passionate, that it comes across a little comical if you’re the type of person who isn’t passionate about anything.””

“It’s time to get to work. Rocky dislodges himself from the couch and ambles through a doorway toward another couch in the studio proper. Hector Delgado, a producer and engineer Rocky’s been working with for years, cycles through a series of in-progress songs for Rocky to review. “We gotta start narrowing some of these down,” Rocky says. “Some of these are not going to make the project.” Several of the best-sounding songs combine soft, ethereal textures with hammering percussion; dreamy singing with intricate rapping; hypnotic grooves with startlingly sudden rhythmic shifts. At this point in his career, another artist—maybe one who doesn’t spend hours physically immersed in pictures of himself—might have been tempted to make something more broadly palatable. But this music balances moments of catchiness with a defiant idiosyncrasy. At one point Rocky actually dismisses a song, named after Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark, as too catchy for its own good: “That sounds like a hit,” he tells Delgado, shaking his head. “I’m scared of hits.”

Before long, Delgado cues up a rough track that Rocky, working with the multiplatinum Atlanta producer Metro Boomin, began last night, raspy voice be damned. For a full minute or two, it consists exclusively of a looped soul vocal and Rocky’s off-kilter rhymes—no bass, no drums. As the song proceeds, his vocals almost seem to fall out of phase with the sample, and the whole track threatens to fall apart, at which point the drums rush in to right the ship. Rocky loves it. “My flow is hard to understand, then that b**** hits!” he cries out in delight.

Delgado nods, encouraging him: “The average person won’t get it till the drums come in,” he says. Rocky smiles. “This s*** is hard. But I was so sleepy. I need to fix the beginning.” Delgado cautions him: “You’ve got to rest your voice, Rock.”

Rocky asks him to play the track again. Something about the start isn’t sitting right with him, but he’s not quite sure why. He tells Delgado to rearrange the sample at the outset slightly, then play it again. He listens, squinting. “Ugh! I wanna get in the booth and fix it!” he repeats.

When I finally leave him to work in peace, it’s after 10 p.m. Any birds in the neighborhood won’t be singing for another eight hours or so—plenty of time to figure it out.”
