Think I like wall of eyes a bit more than this but there’s still some cool tracks on here

First 5 track run is insane btw

    The Slip

    early favorite

  • Oct 4, 2024

Wall of Eyes is clearly most of the cohesive tracks and this one's a little more scatterbrained, but I could easily see an argument for each of their three albums being the best. Very cool discography in such a short time.

  • Oct 4, 2024

I think I like this more than wall of eyes, but I can't tell yet

I still can't tell if I like wall of eyes or the first more too

Crazy all three are so good but imo any could be the "best" due to very different moments

1 has free in the knowledge > a hairdryer as a crazy climax moment

2 has friend of a friend and incredibly lush progressions that create long ended vibes

3 takes some good ideas from 1 and makes them better (zero sum, eyes & mouth), but I think it's the heavy push into full avant-garde-ness that hits the heaviest for me which I feel is taken from 2 and just somehow executed better

I need to listen to the first 2

I'm a big Radiohead stan but I rejected the idea of a side project initially

Came around with Don't Get Me Started sounding Kid A-ish and yeah this album hasn't left my head

The guitar work on Zero Sum and Eyes and Mouth is so fast paced and fun. Incredible licks both of them.

Why would you reject the idea of a side project by artists that you are a big fan of

Maybe I wasn't in the right place in life when the first singles hit or whatever but I definitely was so enamored by AMSP that I couldn't wait to see Radiohead's future

In retrospect this was the best possible outcome whatsoever

Are you even a Radiohead fan if you won't listen to Radiohead side projects?

The smile is what, the 5th or 7th side project from the original band? Lol I think there's more side albums than Radiohead albums at this point

You at least have so much amazing music to hear for the first time lol don't sleep on the smile live record, some extremely different takes on songs there (a hairdryer/free in the knowledge mashup is ethereal)

I mean I know where you're coming from but I do like Radiohead so I would say I'm a fan.

And not to brag but as a matter of fact helped facilitate the guy that leaked OK Computer minis to the right community for it because I was in his inbox or he was in mine asking questions about the minidiscs he had

All in the hopes of OG Lift

But I do agree that you're right that I should've stuck with them and I'm definitely no stan that knows the side projects before The Smile or anything and should experience more

I got into them mid In Rainbows tour if that helps with some perspective but I love the classics

I'm not trying to ride you too hard lol but yeah there's an ass load of amazing side projects overall and I'd recommend going through most (but maybe ignore soundtracks at first)

The smile is so good and unique I feel it stands high as a standalone project that exists for thom/Johnny to excrete their creativity without needing the other members, nothing else side wise stands close, although anima and solo thom stuff is usually killer as well

I've heard solo Thom is amazing and Atoms for Peace was pretty good

Nah I def deserved it honestly. The kick in the ass I needed to finally dig deeper than the obvious B sides 2nd disc's and surface level grail demos and lives

You was just expressing the frustration of others not experiencing all there is to experience and I can dig that

Honestly you’re lucky you haven’t heard the side projects yet bc they’re all so good I wish I could dive in for the first time again

The unreleased Thom/Mark Pritchard album has me so excited

Yeah it def is a treat.

And because I missed the songs live progressions before they made it to final I feel like I don't have the burden of expectations that some of the finally released live staples have

Thom Yorke has somehow created almost the same album 3 times in a row

I’ve liked the first two Smile albums a lot tho so let’s see how I feel about this over time but for now

well. certainly the least i connected with a The Smile album off first listen. i legit started zoning out in the middle forgetting what i was listening to (Don't Get Me Started, Tiptoe)

Zero Sum and Eyes & Mouth are the standouts to me. No Words and Bodies Laughing were cool too

Yeah, this one ain't it. It has a couple interesting songs, but as a whole it feels like underdeveloped throwaways. I will say this, if you take the 10 best songs from the three Smile projects you have a very solid album.

Aside from a few reoccurring motifs, I feel like each Smile album has it's own distinct style
