i think the reason for this is that as his career went on he got more confidant and decided to take control of making the music
the weeknd obviously went from “just” the voice (being told what to sing when in what way) to this guy who thinks he did all that but he didnt and his own musical preference is trash which translates into his music
were in 2020 now and i think theres nothing wrong with labels taking control of musical direction to make good songs if the alternative is trash music by the artist
now i know what you think but artistic freedom shouldnt be neccessary in the 22nd century were not in the 90’s anymore
