Hip Hop is the establishment. It is the #1 genre with the full weight of the culture behind it. When I was younger Punk/Rock were still the biggest market, and over the last few decades you barely see music from that genre even succeed.

What does this have to do with Drake? In this day and age if you are a true artist they will take you down and they have all the tools to do it.

When Drake does Afro beats or dancehall, when he shines light on the UK scene or switch it up to dance/house as he has done, he is using the light and attention he received from being the #1 Hip hop star to give shine elsewhere.

That is why all and sundry have to go after him. In a way, he’s taking attention away from the genre and literally taking money off the table of hip hop. The stars he collabs with don’t get the full Drake album push and if Drake keeps going left with his experimentation it could be a permanent thing.

They stopped giving him critical acclaim when they realised they couldn’t push him into a social justice album because all he cared for was the music. He’s stayed dominant and stopped so many industry plants from taking over the culture. Even those in the culture who cannot get his attention have to s*** on him to get views. The same people who later fellate him when they make peace.

It’s a miracle and testament to his talent and foresight that he’s still at the top and in this position. They’ve tried to box him but he’s knocked their head tops off unfortunately the plebs don’t even know they’re being played.

i do get the criticism with drakes work at times but its always overdone to the point where its ridiculous and more of a personal attack on him.
