This video was the spark that reignited the After Hours rollout. By fall of 2019, people grew tired of waiting for The Weeknd's true follow up to the mixed reviewed Starboy. My Dear Melancholy, is a chapter in the story but not a full length. Heartless and Blinding Lights were then released that November to more initial mixed reviews. Both songs charted high and dropped fast. If it wasn't for this version of BL who knows how we would've remembered After Hours?
Sounded like a ha take on me
slowed + reverb remix made on Audacity in 1 minute saved Abel's career. thank you Cooper!
We gonna go with a good ol
Song is great on its own and appeals to pretty much any age group and demographic. That’s why it’s huge
ion kno I wasn’t keeping track, but why did it fall off so bad and then went back up? Did it not reach enough people initially
And I have never heard nothing bout no slow or reverbe, must be some suburban s***

Of course, the slowed and reverbed made it more obvious
Bro real ones knew when he dropped that single that it was an instant classic. It was the next evolution of pop abel after starboy
To everyone saying "Its because its a great song" you forgot where I said initial response. Besides not every great song gets well received. Look at King Of The Fall
Not really, it gained a lot of steam in early 2020 iirc, you can't attribute that to one video

It fell off because it was released in November before the holiday season. Mariah took off with her annual Christmas song. Then it started to pick up steam after the holidays with album promotion. Following that the pandemic happened and that’s when BL skyrocketed.

Not 100%
Its like when someone with 100k followers RTs your tweet, or when Imanbek remixes Roses. It just helps.. ALOT, I can't explain it better than that
Radio carry job + no other big acts dropping for a long ass time due to the pandemic is the reason why it was so successful. good song tho so im not mad

What @AP3 said, and also pop songs aren’t as immediate chart toppers nowadays as rap songs are. They tend to have a longer chart life and a slower build to the top spots.
