Jimmy Cooks has like 1.4 billion streams its a hit
are we using the billboard chart to determine hits or streams?
money trees has 2.2 billion streams, pride has 1.1 billion
one never charted on the hot 100 and the other spent 1 week on the hot 100 and peaked at #37
neither of those songs are hits imo

you know clb and fatd were released this decade right?
yes those are the albums im referring to, charting high during album week and only spending a few weeks on the charts doesn’t constitute a hit, otherwise MMTBS is full of hits
i forgot about, laugh now cry later that’s actually drake’s mist successful song on the hot 100 this decade but it isn’t on CLB
Money Trees is definitely a hit
it never charted ever, how are we defining hit

we got very different definitions of a hit lol, now, luther …13 weeks at #1, 32 weeks in the top 10, 52 weeks on the hot 100, #2 on the year-end chart, #1 streaming song for 7 weeks, #1 on rhythmic, urban and pop radio… that’s a hit

I mean I guess if you only look at Billboard chart positions and not the fact a song has over two billion streams and is known by hundreds of thousands of people

one can have a hit due to sustained streaming/sales regardless of chart position. iirc a lot of uzis early hits didnt actually chart that high but were still everywhere and racked up streams over time.

600M YouTube views for a song that wasn't a single

But streaming has blurred the lines of things.
If you’re a super popular artist, and drop a song that’s not a smash but gets enough plays on the regular, after 5-6 years that song is gonna be past a billion streams or near the threshold.
Is a song a hit if it reaches 1B streams after 7 years?

I didn’t say it wasn’t popular lmao

Yes absolutely

Accumulated over 14 years though man lmao
I would call Money Trees a fan favorite deep cut that’s popular within his fanbase, the average person has never heard that song
Yes absolutely
I disagree. With the way streaming works, if you’re popular enough, then after a certain amount of time most of your songs are gonna have a super high number on streaming

man im not arguing that it isn’t a popular song, the song is diamond eligible it’s obviously popular and it’s an extreme example because of that but my point is that songs that spend 1-2 weeks on the chart or don’t chart at all aren’t considered hits at least historically
