Niggas in the south were spitters but OVER THE ERAS it became less about that and more about making fun party music. One reason for that is because it seems easier, which is what OP is saying. The other aspect is the south's dominance, which really took off when Nas threw in the towel and said Hip Hop is Dead, which angered Jeezy and the south. And also when Wayne took the crown from Hov. NY vs the south was/is a real thing. It's not fanfic. Word to "the south got something to say". 2016 class being able to say "I don't care about Biggie/Pac/lyrical old head music" starts with the south's dominance towards party music which started as a cultural decision and led to commercialization and a standard about what niggas wanna hear.

I don’t believe this cause I grew up watching Gucci, Waka and OJ freestyle accapella and they were rapping rapping with their trap cadences
maybe the commercialization of hiphop boosting pop/country/dance fans into the genre did more damage to hurt the lyricist cause these fans just want a catchy beat with passable, catchy lyrics than the south
