Only songs I think drag or I personally think should go if I had to cut 3 tracks are vision of division, Evening sun and on the other side. Maybe killing lies if you wanted to really cut it down

But I think it’s julians best lyrically work with the strokes by far

Damn you saw them live in their prime? That’s crazy

It was a beautiful venue too, their sound was extra tight and clean live and Julian was a sweetheart he would come shake hands to all the front crowd and s***

Did I already mention how my source back then told me Comedown Machine was meant to be a solo album? I think we talked about it here I don’t know if it was with you

But I don’t know, you look at the timeline, like back then we figured FIOTE was just Julian evolving and that the hiatus, well, was a hiatus for whatever reason it was

But looking back now how FIOTE starts some of the sounds Julian went further into today, how the hiatus happened right there then only came back to do live shows with the band bluntly stating it was for fat checks, then the albums sounding less Strokes by Julian but having super Strokes formula songs by other members

Then for him to embrace it and do some retro Strokes songs again here and then but going even more further with the Voidz

There seems to be something unspoken, disconnected, I don’t know if it’s about the band members, maybe the legacy and that he doesn’t know what to do with it

Which perhaps explains also the current era, why that ep that’s self explanatory with sounds from the past and future, then nothing and then new songs live taking forever and teased with Voidz too, looks like Julian is in constant indecision artistically?

  • Jan 24, 2020

Like he’s tired of the gimmick but he doesn’t want to let go because he’s aware of the backlash

nah it wasn't me but tbh i have to listen to comedown machine with it being thought of as a julian solo in mind, but it makes sense tbh

there's def something going on, i think what you said about being tired of the legacy and not knowing what to do with it could be true and thats why he went into the voidz direction and abandoned the strokes for awhile

tbh didn't think much of that ep, only heard it 2 or 3 times

Oh yeah okay so yeh the story from my insider that was in studio at New York goes on to say that Julian did Comedown as a solo, but didn’t want to release it because it was too personal

But the boys really loved it so they added their instruments over it and I guess Julian went along in the end and maybe they remodeled it or Frankenstein it to make it more collaborative since why there’s songs on the final cut of other members

But then that would explain why the band didn’t promote any of it, no talk show no live tv show performance no tour no videoclips nothing nada, to this day they’ll only perform one song from it

Which to me reinforces my source’s information, since it’s too personal for Julian he like made a compromise to drop it but never do anything with it you know?

I think this is exactly right. He said part of the reason the voidz even exist is because they’re on the same “wavelength” as him not only musically but personally. With the strokes he didn’t wanna make anyone play any music they don’t like or was too “weird” but the voidz embrace that. They also help creating a lot of the music by jamming and bringing pieces in (which the strokes definitely didn’t do. And it’s clear by everyone’s solo works that they are all in very different places music wise.

I do want to spread that scoop tho because I do believe it (I was informed of it before the album dropped) as it makes sense and that everything the band has done about the album since gives it even more credit, and because mostly I do think it greatly helps to revalue the album, it sure did to me

Yeah the reason the Strokes sounded like they did in the first place is because Julian wrote EVERYTHING and I guess afterwards he wanted to progress in his style or have the band be more involved, either way it didn’t meet eye to eye and still seems to lose focus to this day, like a struggle to meet halfway

Thankfully we keep getting marvelous songs out of all of this so it’s all good

Yes I explained that in my long ass post earlier, it’s more likely they transformed the album in the final cut to make it less personal, brought other new or unused songs from other band members

I don’t even think Julian at this point was much involved but that’s just me tho
