Same thing with Lamar 👀

I know Bill is committed to giving Mac another year to see how he does. So for that reason I could see him being less interested in Lance…but Lamar is a proven talent (that Bill has said many times he thinks is exceptional). Those type of proven QBs don’t become available on the open market often.

I don’t know about Lance. He’s a big question mark. The 49ers are in a strange position to say the least. I know they will stick with Brock next season, but they still gave up three first round picks to draft Lance. They need to get some kind of a return.

Lamar on the other hand, if he’s available, go get him. Bill has been very transparent with his praise for Lamar.

I feel that. But if they truly do believe Brock is their qb going forward, they’d be doing themselves no favors by holding onto Lance. His value is just going to decline from here on out if they bench him next year.

If Lamar is available, I say we spend the money on Sony Michel instead

Without question the thing I’m hoping for the most is that OBrien is able to unlock the potential of the two tight end offense again with Henry and Jonnu. I have no desire for us to have a lot of dead cap by cutting Jonnu or both of them, I’d much prefer to just get them playing better. And it really takes VERY little to get more out of Jonnu due to how horrible he’s been utilized (Henry was also horribly utilized last season, less so 2 years ago though).

I can’t wait for Bill O’Brien to unlock the two tight end offense for Bailey Zappe.

Jokes aside, I admit this feels like a “safe” hire. Having said that, I hope that with a true offensive mind in the building, we still try to work in McVay concepts like the outside zone run and condensed formations.

Call it whatever you want, bottom line is as a coach OBrien has had pretty much every offense he’s led maximize their talents (whether the talents are on the low end or high end). I trust him fully and couldn’t imagine a better hire. In some ways, I even think it’s possible that he’s better than Josh.

I personally would have preferred a more modern and innovative offensive coordinator, but I'm not disappointed either. I completely agree with you: I think Bill O'Brien is a better OC than Josh. I know Josh has the reputation, but he makes some questionable calls.
