They're gonna lose a s*** ton of money when s*** hits the fan come flu szn
tv ratings will be through the roof. baseball just did huge numbers

Ahh. But it's not like they're negotiating new TV deals this year right? I thought they would just be getting whatever they negotiated a few years back before this started.
Also, I mainly meant that logically this is gonna be a huge s*** show once things get really bad in the winter and huge percentages of every teams are out

option 1: you lose billions this year and players get no money (this f***s over majority of the league thats making league minimums or is on practice squads)
option 2: you play the year out like every other professional league and do better than MLB on testing. everyone makes money, ratings are through the roof, and league grows its reach.

I definitely agree with you that it could be rough on the players, especially practice squad players, if there is no season.
But let's not pretend like there's no risk in having a season for the league/owners. If things get out of control in the late fall/winter and they need to stop the season like the NBA did in March, they could potentially still lose a s*** ton of money. And that would be on top of the money they're already losing by not being able to have fans in most (or all? Idk which dumbass state would allow people to go to stadiums rn) states pay for tickets to games.
It's far from an obvious decision imo.

yeah it'll be interesting how they handle it. football is the most close quarters sport as well with largest amount of players by far. risk is big.
with the way US is progressing, outbreak seems inevitable so dunno how they'll handle it.
hope they've studied European soccer and how we're handling things smoothly (completed our seasons last 2 months already).
So from what I understand (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), but we now have a large amount of cap space, since all of our players that opted out had their contracts subtracted from our cap space.
So what are y'all hoping we do with the extra money?
It seems to make sense to try to trade for players that have 1 year remaining on their current deals, since we'll have our opted out players back next year.
Also given Hightower, Chung, and Cannon's injury history, I feel like there's an extremely high chance that most of them decide to retire. Being out 1 full year is going to make it very difficult for them to return given their ages.

Roll it over to next year when the cap might go down and the guys who opted out come back on the payroll. We’ll need the space and we’ll be in a good position.
I do expect us to make a few more signings but nothing major. I mean maaaaaybe we do something flashy but I’m not expecting it. Sign a tackle we’ve probably never heard of. And a tight end.

Like I said in the post below that one, if we can find guys that are on the last year of their deal to trade for then it wouldn't have any effect on next year's cap. Or if we just signed a free agent for a one year deal (but Reiss doesn't think that's likely because he said we'd have to increase Cam's deal if we did that since we signed him for so cheap when we were broke).

I feel you, but it would still have an effect on next years cap because unused cap space this year gets rolled over as extra cap space next year
I was never on the dumb “tank season” mindview for 2020 but given all our opt outs and the fact that the season might get cancelled anyway, I’m thinking that we should save most of our money for next year. A few minor additions but nothing too pricey. But we’ll see... If Belichick wants to sign someone significant (clowney etc) to a one year deal like you said, that’s cool too.

Oh s*** really? I had no idea that's not how they do it in the NBA, and I just assumed it would be the same.
I def agree then that it's best to save the money unless something great came along.

people are also saying we should give cam more money now that we have it. I'm not going to hate if we throw him an extra million but lets not go crazy now. no one else wanted to sign him

Dude no that's f***ed up, he deserve his money tf

It’s f***ed up for him to play out the contract he signed a month ago?

It's like Prez said fam. This is a business at the end of the day. You wouldn't say that someone who sold Tesla stock last year deserves to get it back for the same price they originally got it for.
Cam and the Pats both took a risk with that contract
