The underground is reinventing itself from the 2016 lil pump soundcloud era and i'm here for it.
It's heading more towards experimenting with a lot more niche references, like mid-2000s anime/goth/internet culture.
The sound is like fast-paced unconventional beats, with a dark/fun influence from artists like SpaceGhostPurrp and Goth Money and the "phonk" genre of music
The sound also has roots in Florida, from the "fast music"/"stick drill" genre
Since SGP went back to the underground and started evolving his sound to be more grimy and distorted and way less accessible and mainstream, he incorporated a lot of that florida culture into his music and a lot of these guys took influence from that
It's a fresh take on older concepts and isn't just directly copying other successful artists down to the sound
The wave is led by artists like RCB, Drain Gang (if they are still considered an underground collective) and plenty others I honestly forget at the moment
There is also a smaller wave on the rise called "hexD" mixes where they will take these songs and speed them up and bitcrush them to achieve a intentional lo-fi effect
It's a great change from the previous era and I want to see if it has potential to reach more appeal in the 2020s (maybe toned down)
Nerds takin ova that movement. Lean X**** and Percocets will be replaced by Mushrooms and LSD like Metro Zu originally intended
i think further and further we go the more clear that veteran will become very influential, but i also see drain gang becoming very popular in their as whole e boy aesthetic comes from them

mushroom lsd and gas
i know ktt tends to hate new underground artists but don't you think that's what the oldheads on BX/Coli/Hypebeast did to the blog era
way better no one is OD'ing now
Subject matter isn't depressing stupid s*** anymore neither
hopefully this the new soundcloud underground wave for the 2020s, more experimentation and new sounds :)
i ain't saying this will go lil pump mainstream status or anything but hopefully this starts a blog era 2.0 where more artists are incentivized to change up their sound and experiment and birth new sounds and create legends
you need that for hip-hop to truly sustain itself
