That's not Drake's fault. You work with what you have. He was the most dominant rapper of his generation years before the streaming era and he's even more dominant in the streaming era. Nothing stopping others from doing as well as him but no one is.
You d***riding that song heavy.
Stronger way bigger than Ride Wit Me.
Na. "heyyy must be the money!" still gets played every night outside my PR apartment by some random DJ guy. Stronger is big but literally everyone in the world knows "heyyyy must be the money!" its like Shaggy's "Wasn't me" in terms of instantly recognizable hook anywhere in the world. Both those songs are bigger than any rap song of the last 15 years imo. Even grandmas know both of those lol
I also don’t agree with Verzuz scenarios for different generations since ppl will naturally have bias to their time
But objectively, Drake’s discography got more highlights when the dust settles than Nelly’s. I don’t even think that’s a matter of preference.
People gonna look back and Drake’s run is gonna have much more memory and reference.
For sure, Drake’s run is much longer, while being one of the last true superstars.

Gold Digger hook feels more recognizable, and s***, so does Empire State of Mind.

Na you severely underrating the song now but agree to disagree

It’s literally not even Nelly most streamed song. You severely overrating it
Got added to Billboard's charts in late 2014 but didn't really blow up and start having an impact on the charts till around 2016. Apple Music launched in June 2015.

It's insane the number of timeless/classic records Drake already has and that cute across singles/features/remixes/loosies/album cuts. And he's adding to those lists every year.
When it's all said and done, I don't know that there'll be any discography in hip-hop history that matches up to his in terms of sheer number of classic songs.

neither is gold digger or empire lol but alas agree to disagree. Its a huge compliment to drake, not a slight.
He was definitely releasing great music in those years and even the years before that but what I'm saying is that from 2009, he's been the biggest/most dominant rapper of his generation. That was true way before the streaming era. He had 3 #1 albums/over a dozen top 10 hits to his name by 2013. Many of his peers don't even have that number of hits as of 2022. It's never been close is what I'm saying and he didn't need to streaming era to be successful.
His first two albums are classics and the third one was really good. Such a shame Nelly still doesn’t get his proper respect.
Girlfriend Remix was literally the reason rap music merged into pop. This was in the 2000s when rap was ultra conservative.
He had bars when he wanted to spit, but he was ahead of his time and showcased versatility. By making songs like Pimp Juice, making real r&b records like My Place, and working with artist like John Mayer.
Drake is more of a rapper than Nelly sure, but his melodies can be traced back to Nelly.
I know Nelly was the man and could rap but come on we’re not gonna compare Nelly as a spitter to a Hov or Wayne. We are with Drake - and did
And Drake is more than a rapper who used melody. He also straight up sings fr on top of it, often in the same songs he’s rapping his ass off lol
If anything Lauryn Hill is the only person who can be compared to Drake given the pure rapping/singing blend was her signature. But even then you can’t compare beyond that
Shake Ya Tailfeather spent an entire month at #1 unless you were there its hard to describe how big that song was lol
This man Drake:
ALL AT ONCE. And did the rap/sung blend so well that even the most tough street rappers no longer felt the need to outsource hooks to r&b singers cause now they could do it themselves and still be seen as cool. You know how unique that is?
What rapper could be in competition with Kanye and Chris Brown simultaneously before him?

And no disrespect to Lauryn Hill. Miseducation is a classic, but Drake being a high-level rapper and also being a top-tier vocalist across multiple albums and hundreds of songs puts him way above her in my book. No one has done a mix of those styles as well and for as long as Drake has.

drake is not a high level rapper or a top tier voaclist LMAO .... this guy can not sing live and can not perform live

Drake is not Usher or JT like you mentioned before, you reaching on the singing part. He’s just as much of a singer as Nelly is.
