Seemed like it was generic song after generic song, its a slugfest to get to IFIC. It seemed like he went to the stu and they said okay abel make a generic mj type song, now a trilogy parody, now a trap song and etc. vocally it was a bit lacking as well, he played it super safe except for a few songs , his lower register singing in secrets & die for you come to mind, both highs on this mid album. The albums you named are classics tho thrice, this a 6-7 on a good day and u still gotta cut a good 1/3 to enjoy imo

i love starboy too but after hours made me realize that starboy pales in comparison and it also reminded me of where the weeknd can stand within pop music.

I think he did the best he could with the sequencing with what he had but that approach was too safe, when the weeknd can do so much more.

so f***in happy this era was so successful with fans and critics. This was a risk and now since it paid off, I expect him to be way more consistent, atleast more risk taking
