Yep, I always thought it was a pitch shifting but it’s actually called formant shifting which is a little more exact than pitch shift. The formant shifting literally changes the timbre of the note which is basically just the style and way in which the note is sung, shifting that mid phrase as often as Abel did during that song, creates a really eerie effect which we heard on initiation
