His vocals are immaculate, and dancing isn't necessary
Dancing > crazy lights, sets etc.
Unironically Weeknd been pushing that generic radio pop sound from BBTM for a minute it’s insane it got gassed up this much. Like it’s still good but come on
Dawn FM and After Hours s*** on BBTM

Dawn FM Is generic pop Ok
And what was crazy innovative about Blonde? bro was biting Prince heavy on that one
The musical value on Dawn FM is crazy, most of the instrumentals on Blonde and CO are FL/Ableton loops. Abel and the producers actually put in work on the music for Dawn FM
Abel much more prolific than Frank while still having the same or even more influence. Has MUCH more hits, his discography is more versatile, has classic videos and album eras. There’s no comparison bro
How is Blonde biting Prince? There’s not a single song or moment throughout Blonde’s 15 songs that could be said to be biting Prince
This sounds like you just threw any remotely artsy black name out there
Dancing > crazy lights, sets etc.
Nah
Dancing > crazy lights, sets etc.
I ain't going to a stadium concert to see someone dance
It wasn’t Abel. listen to most modern r&b. It sounds like pnd and Drake. Barely any of it sounds like The Weeknd.
Tiller, Summer Walker, etc all PND sons. Plus all that “trap n b” s*** is branched off Drake and Party. Not really The Weeknd.
One of the biggest lies in music the past 10 years has been giving The Weeknd credit for Party’s influences
You’re right that sonically The Weeknd didn’t have influence on the sound of r&b as much as he did the aesthetic of it for a period with the dark d***ged out look and vibe ie 6Lack
Weeknd is definitely influential on pop from 2015-2018 tho. It got darker and more adult for a while and using his production sensibilities, even the melodies changed where pop songs started centering around specific notes (minor 2nd) and moving in the pentatonic scale a specific way to mimic The Weeknd - it was that deep even Taylor Swift adopted the wave

Dudes wanting to see other dudes strut their hips 🧐

And? If I’m paying all that money for a concert you better sing, dance, and strut ur heart out like it’s soul train

Lights and stage design>>>stupid dancing
I want to see the artist showing off their skills, not Wrestlemania pyrotechnics

Yeah and some artists can sing and do more than bounce dancing like a 12 year old
I feel like Frank heard Signs “O” The Times and The Love Below and made that s*** indie/more lo-fi. Blonde is great but it’s very overrated imo, the writing is top tier of course but the production isn’t anything out of this world, lots of artists used pitched up vocals before (Prince and 3k come to mind), Frank just decided to use that sound for a whole project and released that s*** at the right time.
blonde sound has a little to do with those albums. frank and prince changed pitch for different purposes. prince used pitched up vocals to be more androgynous and to come from female perspective. frank used high pitched vocals to be more juvenile. that s*** came from electronic scene and has nothing to do with prince. you probably out of touch with this one
carti heard nights when it was created and later came with baby voice. after blonde came out artists started using pitched up vocals much more. in many genres it was practically a mauvais ton before (i'm not meaning speedup samples, chipmunk, etc.)

And they are all worse than The Weeknd

I love Party too and his influence is undeniable, but so is Abel’s.
Party’s influence is definitely more widespread and apparent, but Weeknd’s is there as well. You don’t get a Brent Faiyaz without Weeknd’s pre-BBTM work
