The funny thing is that while your entitled to your opinion on this, or Heartless or whatever else, clearly the majority of us here (as well as around the world considering youtube views and spotify charts and whatnot) like the direction hes going. So your opinion is in the minority. I think it's safe to say hes going in the right direction with his new album.

Is that the only song I like so far from the album but it’s prob my favorite song of 2020 as of now

Background music for me at best.

While the song is reminiscent of Trilogy, the lyrics have nowhere near the same amount of emotional resonance. While his falsetto at times works well with the interesting beat movements (I think 3 was way too much, personally) after a while it seems that the song would benefit from more of his regular voice.

It’s also clear the rest of the album will sound nothing like this so it’s hit and miss.

Definitely the strongest single, though.

I hear you, it’s weird because his lyrics were stronger on the come up(guessing due to trynna make it n all that) but now it seems completely written by him in the wrong way lol. I haven’t checked credits but it’s like he’s trynna go for quotable bars which doesn’t really work for him IMO (heartless, reminder, etc)

People say they love his new direction: but After Hours showed to me he’s revisiting his old directions and trying to create a formula that works.

The song’s 3 directions are Trilogy to Starboy to MDM.

What I mean by that is the first 2 minutes harken back to his older discography; then he shifts into a rhythm people might actually be able to dance to, before finally ending on a somber, almost haunting note.

It’s not new for him and it’s frankly boring.
