A lot of the praise given to Abel early on was due to his lyrics. They liked how he was so explicit yet it sounded so polished and clean.
this is bs lol
it was all in the dark production and atmosphere that abel worked with
lyrics have always been critiqued and he’s improved since trilogy by leaps and bounds
he isn’t writing ‘faith’ level tracks anywhere on trilogy minus maybe a few tracks on EoS
HoB has some terrible lyrics but the sounds and melodies are too good to hold it back in any way (the content is almost perfect for the sound in the same breath however basic the writing is)
he’s just never been an artist i think anyone really looks for insightful or particularly relatable content at all
i still love abel tho and don’t care if his lyrics are doodoo, they don’t need to be great in the first place
damn niggas itt the same age as abel ready to die for him i can't imagine being that sad
Bro fr
they would sell their house for this man
the weeknd the only dude who gets away with the lo mein punchline and that’s a fact lmao

It’s not BS I was literally there from the beginning dude trust me his explicit lyrics were something that ALWAYS came up in discussion. The production was of course important, but it was all bundled up with his voice and lyrics. That’s what made “The Weeknd”.
We’re on the same page tho, Abel’s lyrics have never been amazing (except KL), but I also don’t think they’ve ever been bad. Trilogy has got some stinkers but it’s also got some really great lines, you can say that about any of his projects really.
As long as it sounds good ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I just deleted this line off my Twitter so embarrassing

Trying to revise history odee. Nobody in the original ktt thread was going crazy about his lyrics
It was always about the sound and the atmosphere. Back when we were waiting every thursday for the 2nd mixtape everyone already agreed that the lyrics weren't great. It was agreed that he wasn't even a great singer. Everyone was in it for the vibes.

I’m not trying to rewrite history I’m just sharing what I saw from my own experiences. People were constantly talking about how only Abel could make “these p**** ass - tryna hold on to they credit” sound so sweet
Lyrics? You kidding me? Too late to talk about the lyrics!
This entire decade was about the death of lyricisim. Name the top 3 lyrical rappers under 30 and you'll notice that they aren't relevant. Lyrics haven't mattered in RnB and Rap for a while now
Abel is a King
R&b is still about the lyrics.
This is how I know most of y’all don’t listen to r&b outside of The Weeknd and frank ocean and they are hardly r&b in the first place
Party is a better writer than Abel but I promise Abel will wash him in everything else gtfo
Party is a better writer and producer. Abel only has a better voice. His albums are crafted by an entire team.

Then why didn’t he produce a single song on PARTYMOBILE?

We have three albums worth of material to suggest he’s a better producer than Abel who literally doesn’t produce.
He didn’t produce on Partymobile because he’s an idiot.

Like you said, Abel doesn't produce so this is a moot subject
partymobile is better than everything except trilogy
Bruh what lmaooooo come on
Op gotta be the most bipolar user i ever f***ing see in my life oh my god
You would think luring white suburban moms into his limo with cocaine would get boring for Abel after 9 years, but I guess not.
Bruh what lmaooooo come on
i mean he said except for 30 songs so that's not really a statement
Op gotta be the most bipolar user i ever f***ing see in my life oh my god
You sound 12
