I personally don’t mind his poppier side, since it gives us so much f***ing ear candy with each album, and I think he found a wonderful way to fuse it with his R&B roots on After Hours.
Honestly, After Hours is like the perfect Weeknd album in that regard, hope the next one is more of that mixture of Pop and R&B instead of just pop like Dawn

My favorite Weeknd Album is Thursday probably. Idk what it is man. Like the moodiness or it or what but it sounds unlike anything I've ever heard.

Agree on AfterLife 100%. I didn't ge the same super into it feel for BBTM and Start boy. They were objectively amazing. Just idk.didnt give me same goosebumps. After Hours tho. Incredible album. I think I like it more than kissland even.

The production style and the lyrics, and vocal effects were all very very unique before people started copying them, and I’d argue Able still does it the best as of now.

I agree. Some sound good but a lot just autotune half singing to deliver a similar detached, non chalant, kind of feel but it comes off basic. Like Nav for example has songs even trying to recreate that space but it feels hollow and not real.

Yeah I agree with you that many of the imitators fall flat to varying degrees. I feel like something a lot of them miss is that even though the vocals on the original tapes and MDM were ambient and drifty, Able was still really singing his heart out and giving the base recordings his all, instead of just letting the vocal effects do most of the work for him; I think that is a big part of what separates him from the rest.

Also, I really liked that song you posted here; that style of drums mixed with the Spanish guitar, mixed with the sped up samples, and finally the vocals all came together very nicely. If you ever release anything formally, please post about it, so we can listen!
