    Impossible

idk cause he sold the most he ever did first week

streams are down 15% across the board, maybe its the same with youtube videos

yea, doesn’t make sense to me. maybe just a lack of promotion by his label.

You really think the general public is interested in narrative driven music videos that stretch across now five songs? They just wanna see something cool happen for a song. Nothing to do with the label.

And to expand on that, the BBTM era videos connected and had a storyline but there was much more action and it was way less cinematic and “movie-like” in a sense

All of the music videos from this era have lowkey flopped tbh, which is a big shame cause they’re the best visuals he’s released. How did Starboy get 1.6 billion but he can’t get 100m on any of the new ones?

I'm lovin the videos but I think he may have shot himself in the foot. Dude's been rockin the same suit and all the videos have a similar aesthetic. Regular viewers just see the thumbnail and think they've already seen it cause it looks familiar.

it's been like that for many big artists. goodbyes by post malone has over 600M streams on spotify but the music video only racked up 130M views in 9 months

even taylor swift is flopping on youtube

The blinding lights audio only is racking in views but the gore on the videos turn people off.
Not really flopping cause YouTube videos dont get those type of views no more

He's definitely dead in this video. This is some sort of purgatory/hell (probably after 'in your eyes') where it seems he wants to escape, find peace but is obviously trapped and finding it difficult to let go. He's stuck in a viscous loop/cycle which explains the clone in the desert.

This whole narrative and character study seems to be massively inspired by Adrian Lyne's "Jacobs Ladder". I'd go into details but i cba, however this quote from the film kinda sums up The Weeknd in these videos, particularly After Hours till the end

"“The only thing that burns in hell is the part of you that won't let go of your life: your memories, your attachments. They burn 'em all away. But they're not punishing you,. They're freeing your soul...If your frightened of dying, and your holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace then the devils are really angels freeing you from the earth.”

Do I think this is the end of "The Weeknd" ? I'm not sure. The death of this lone hedonist persona he's been donning for the past decade perhaps? there's a strong possibility, yes

Also those dragging him down in the video aren't his fans lmao but his demons, 100%

    Hope this helps

Makes sense tbh, way more ppl use Spotify to play music in the background (whether it’s casual music listeners or ppl who work in the public), especially with that freemium tier that they offer. Most of these ppl listen to curated Spotify/big label/influencer playlists: if you can get a track in one of these playlists it’s an easy way to rack streams #’s up

Ppl don’t really listen/watch Youtube in that same fashion I guess
YouTube/Google have taken notice of this and have begun to implement this automix feature on YT Music and on their standard website

Just switched from Spotify to YT Music

Sadly one of his more deeper, meaningful and visceral self-directed videos will get overlooked by his fanbase because they're hell bent on getting videos for songs like escape from L.A.

what a shame, If i were Abel i wouldn't bother putting any effort into the visuals cause most of fans simply don't get them, they'd rather butcher his art into 50 second clips over other songs on IG and twitter. smh
