So, I haven't posted in Ktt in a couple of years, I've changed a lot in my life but I still lurk here from time to time to see the reactions to albums that I catch wind of. This opinion is probably going to hurt some people... But I think part of the reason I got bored with rap and hip hop in the level of an obsession I felt for it when I was on here all the time was because no one was out trying to make good, polished, but innovative music, the game became filled with either early 20teens throwback acts, or cash grabs around 2018, and I just wasn't getting any enjoyment out of listening to the same albums coming and going. The forced drama, sus cosigns etc didn't help either. I don't think anyone is making genuine music consistently, or abundantly in there anymore. Sadly
But... having taken a step back, I kind of got more into what we're doing here I think, we're appreciating good music, not just the innovation or experimental work, I think the case for pop music has to be looked at partially from a commercial standpoint but also in it's ability to take innovations, and polish them into absolute belters of cultural significance
The way this comes with the Weeknd, is that I heard blinding lights one day, and that caught my attention because it was taking synth wave elements I know the subculture would be proud of, and polished them into a hit. I was super excited for after hours at that point, and it was the first album I'd bought in years without listening to once, and honestly... I was disappointed, I felt like he had retreated into the general commercial landscape of that year, I felt like it might be like when you're 100% yourself in a relationship, break up with someone and then make yourself a f***ing average npc because you don't want people to think you're some weirdo... so yeah I wasn't happy with after-hours because it wasn't that blowout synth wave made 21st century banger... BUT
DAWN FM - is exactly what I wanted from after hours. I think he caught the wave he created and he's made this masterpiece which plays beautifully from top to bottom like an absolute blockbuster. There is a time and place for after hours, I believe it was necessary for this to exist and the subject matter here might not make sense without it. But i believe this album is the culmination of a career's work of soul searching. I love it and personally I'd be happy if this was his last album. 10/10
anyway back to radio silence lol
I need someone to remix is there someone else
It’s perfect the way it is though
