The discotheque line hits different
i've been soyfacing to that line ever since the first time i heard it during the livestream
What have you been listening to lately?
Right now? Let’s see pulls out phone … Anita Ward, I can’t stop playing her 1979 hit “Spoiled by Your Love,” those types of disco records, like Donna Summer’s stuff with legendary writer/producer Giorgio Moroder. Scrolls through iTunes … Oneheotrix Point Never, Billy Idol, Roxy Music… have you heard of Space? They were like the first French robot group, it’s pretty funny (plays “Magic Fly” from video 1977, which sounds like a Daft Punk prototype).
You’ve really gotta tap into what makes Daft Punk Daft Punk, or what makes Prince Prince, you know? You just start diving into it, really digging in, and then you forget that nobody else knows it! Scrolls some more … Lots of Hall & Oates, a lot of deep house, Chicago house, Cocteau Twins, Eazy-E, Kraftwerk — Kraftwerk was a huuuge influence on this album, like “Man Machine” — Egyptian Lover, Human League, Strawberry Switchblade, lots of electronic stuff… and Rick Astley! (laughter) I shouldn’t have let you see that!

safe to say that the sound of Dawn FM was conceptualised around this time?

That deep voiced spoken portion on Don't Break My Heart is pure Egyptian Lover homage, no one seems to have picked up on that
I’m not so worried about the initial success of this album given how good I think the songs on here are
I think in the long term (5-7 years) this album will still have songs lingering around

was listening to the Memento Mori Ep 3 recently and he played egyptian lover and I instantly noticed
Honestly I always got the impression that AH deluxe songs were separate from the world of AH takes place in due to the teasers vid he dropped where he was wearing a black suit
I thought black suit represents hell or whatever he got into
either way as far as narrative goes they make perfect sense to me at the end of the album. visuals seems to tell a bit of a separate story as well
Nahhh man this dude Abel really a f***ing genius man
This dude had it all mapped out from jump street
this s*** tripped me out so much
